On arrival we were meet by one of the managers (Giles) and shown around the Manor. We were offered drinks and refreshments. All the staff were amazing, they cant do enough for you. This place is everything and more. If you want to get up close and personal with the giraffes and feel like a king or queen this is the place to come to.

I can easily say my passion in life is traveling and I have been to some amazing places in the world. While I have much left to explore, this place was a gem! Such an extraordinarily scenic environment!. I went with my parents, husband and two daughters and it was a highlight of our safari vacation. A lot of people start off here. I would recommend finishing here. Safaris, while great, are not relaxing. This was the perfect end. We arrived quite tired and feeling a little dirty from the Maasai Mara despite our lovely bucket shower there. We arrived at lunch time and were offered drinks and showed to our rooms, which were incredible! We had the Jock, Betty and Daisy rooms for the 6 of us, and we reserved those about 11 months in advance. We had the best rooms in the manor. There is a newly built wing. While it is pretty, what a shame not to stay in the manor itself! Especially if you have read the book and wanted the true experience.
Giles and all of the staff were fantastic. I don't know if my parents, my children, my husband or I enjoyed the experience more. It was extraordinary! While very expensive, it was worth every cent! I would never go through Nairobi again and not try to stay there. Keep in mind, it takes serious planning ahead. We had friends who wanted to join us there, and 8 months in advance, it was already too late to do so. Definitely a bucket list item!!! I'm thankful I was lucky enough to go!!!! Thank you to all of the lovely staff at Giraffe Manor!!! Some of you (especially Daisy and Kelly) will be on our Christmas Card! Thanks again! We will see you again in two years time!

Giraffe Manor was a disappointment! I really felt like I was staying in a glorified zoo with rooms. There are only 7 Giraffes and there is a pubic park about 50 feet from the hotel that is open until 5:00 every night and people come and stuff the Giraffes full of feed pellets.
We stayed in the new addition house that was completely unauthentic! Although, the staff was very friendly and helpful. Even they could not persuade the overfed and tired Giraffes to the manor.
I really wanted to stay in an old authentic manor much like Betty and Jock Melville had left behind only to find that there son sold the property and things had terribly changed.
If you must spend one night in Nairobi to catch a morning flight then it is fine. But, do not plan a vacation around this disappointment.

You often see holiday pictures in brochures which turn out to be rather more appealing than the actual holiday it’s self. Not in this case. You really do get what you see and more. Feeding the Giraffe was totally amazing. The hotel staff were very professional and attentive. Pure luxury. A perfect end to our holiday in Kenya.

An unbelievable experience and the perfect start to our honeymoon. We arrived early in the morning after our flight from the UK and were greeted by the manager and a cup of tea and breakfast.

The staff were very attentive and went the extra mile - surprising us with candles, rose petals and champagne in our the room after dinner on the day of our arrival. The Sheldrick wildlife trust orphan centre is just an hour away - so very conveniently located for this.

The food, service and after dinner drinks were second to none.

The giraffes are just amazing - they really do eat from your hands and it is a unique experience to get so close to these magnificent animals.

If you are looking for a magical experience then this is the place to go. We only stayed one night and two days before heading off on safari so not sure whether there are other sites to see in and around Nairobi.

It was expensive but exclusive and definitely worth it.

Room Tip: We stayed in the family room suite on the ground floor - huge room, lovely bathroom, faultless.

My Husband and I i-corporated the Giraffe Manor into our honeymoon and loved every minute of it, from the moment we got picked up at the airport until the transfer to our next resort we were spolit & doted on by everyone at the Giraffe Manor.
Due to a cancelled flight from Kenya Airways we actually arrived at the Manor seven hours late but were made to feel totally at home and welcome on arrival and given a beautiful room in their new wing with a stunning four poster bed and lovely congratulation messages and flowers.
The Giraffes are obviously the highlight of this resort but the stately manor is beautifully maintained and decorated with goreous surroundings and very friendly and attentive staff.
We were lucky enough to meet almost all of the giraffes and have sereval one on one experiences with them including a night snack & the famous morning breakfast. No matter what age you are this is a magical adventure, we treasured all our time with them and loved getting so close to these amazing creatures & feeding them, we even got kisses from them!
We also need to mention the amazing food served, the evening meal was devine. Nine of us all sat down to ate together in the main manor's dining room, we shared travel stories and experiences while enjoying the gorgeous food & wine. Afterwards we moved into the lounge and enjoyed a night cap infront of the open fire, perfect. We missed lunch unfortunately but the other guests did mention that the fish was some of the best they had ever had! The breakfast was also fabulous, fruit, kenyan coffee, cereal, eggs, pancakes, the lot but the giraffes do tent to steal the show because they come and dine with you and put their heads through the open windows!
The personal touches and details were outstanding, the manager made an extra special effort to come and meet us and chat throughout our stay. The butler woke us up with hot beverages, the open bar & snacks in the reception areas & the giraffe accessories everywhere such as giraffe ice buckets, water jugs, plates, pictures & cushions to name a few .
We also got a wonderful romantic honeymoon surprise in our room after dinner, they had arranged for sparking wine, a bubble & rose petal bath and candles, so lovely.
All of our friends & family have loved hearing our personal giraffe encounters at the Manor and were amazed by our pictures & we can not recommend it highly enough to them all, we only wish we had more than one night there.

We stayed at the Giraffe Manor for 2 nights in the brand new Garden Manor staying in the Finch Hatton Suite. The whole place was lovely but it did have some teething problems that we experienced.

As a guest you can choose where you want to dine, inclusive in the rate, whether you want to dine in the old manor, the courtyard or the new Garden manor they will cater to your request. Out of the 5 meals that we had there (2 breakfast, 1 lunch and 2 dinners) we were highly impressed with the 1 lunch only. Service was good but one staff member did try to hint that he would like an extra tip which we declined and gave in the general tip box instead.

The lovely giraffes will make several appearances throughout the day and they have adopted the new Garden Manor as a hang out place as well. Both buildings have lovely sitting rooms with fireplaces and both are decorated in the same way. We love sitting by the fireplace before dinner while drinking and snacking on the H'orderves.

The free wi-fi is really good and you can get coverage in both building and the speed was fast enough for me to use Facetime with my daughter in Thailand. Another good point is that the manor will provide a complementary car and driver to take you around their neighborhood for visits at the other attractions around the area. They will also provide pickup and drop-off services to and from the airport which we appreciated as their driver, George, took good care of us and help us check-in for our domestic flight.

Some of the problems we faced while staying in the Garden Manor are as follow, all minor but worth mentioning.

The furniture fittings in our rooms did not worked properly like the glass shower door took quite an effort to open and closed as the door was too close to the floor. There were no towel hangers in the bathroom but there where holes some one had drilled so perhaps they wil install some.

The fireplace in our suite had a faulty design and even though I was warned about this from a fellow Tripadvisor poster I still requested the Finch Hatton Suite even with reassurance from the Manor's manager that the problems had been fixed. The chimney is too small in my opinion and a lot of smoke "overflow" out into the room making it a bit hard to breath!

Periodic power failure - only in the Garden Manor while the main manor had power. Probably a simple fuse/breaker type of a problem which I hope they will fix soon. The VW van used to pick us up was in a rather bad shape with no A/C and the left passenger compartment window could not be open. With bad traffic jams in Nairobi the A/C would had been nice keeping out the smoke and cooling us at the same time.

Last and most serious problem was that when we were leaving we had asked the manager to contact their sister camp - Sala's Camp (belonged to the same company) and made sure that there was someone picking us up from the airstrip in the Masai Mara. The manager, I believe it was Michael, reassured us that there would be no problem and guess what - Sala's Camp did not pick us up when the plane landed! Obviously the manager of the Giraffe Manor did not contact their sister property at our request and what should had been a routine pickup ended up as a frustrating experience for us.

Again all minor problems which we overlooked in favor of being near and interacting with the lovely giraffes. Highly recommended and if they can fix everything then it will be perfect!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Giraffe Manor is owned by The Safari Collection and is an exclusive boutique hotel, set in 12 acres of private land within 140 acres of indigenous forest in the Langata suburb of Nairobi. As one of Nairobi’s most iconic buildings, Giraffe Manor has extraordinary appeal, that harks back to the 1930s when European visitors first flocked to East Africa to enjoy safaris. With its stately facade, elegant interior, verdant green gardens, sunny terraces and delightful courtyards, guests often remark that it’s like walking into the film Out of Africa: indeed, one of its twelve rooms is named after the author Karen Blixen. However, the most fascinating thing about Giraffe Manor is its herd of resident Rothschild giraffe who may visit morning and evening, sometimes poking their long necks into the windows in the hope of a treat, before retreating to their forest sanctuary. Giraffe Manor can be booked for the night or as part of a complete tailor-made safari with The Safari Collection. ... more   less
