Don’t even consider staying at another hotel when in Nairobi! Rose Muya of Timeless Tours in Nairobi organized the trip for our party of six to the Aberdare Rhino Retreat and the Maasai Mara, with stays at The Fairview when passing through Nairobi. The Fairview is a welcome oasis in a noisy, traffic-clogged city. The location couldn’t be safer, even for women traveling alone (across from the Israeli Embassy; The Fairview compound is enclosed behind a secure wrought-iron fence w/ security checkpoints on the street). The entire Fairview family – Reception, First Class lounge, restaurant, and housekeeping staff - is gracious and accommodating. The elegant and always-present Vicki, one of the senior managers, ensures the operation runs flawlessly. The First Class lounge offers free Internet access and tea with cookies until 11pm. The breakfast buffet includes food to please every taste and the staff will make omelets at your request. And a real treat: the daily New York Times Digest is available every morning in the breakfast restaurant! Our rooms had a/c, a ceiling fan, and – a rarity in modern hotels – windows that we could open so we weren’t hermetically sealed at night. The Fairview is modern while retaining its old world charm. Timeless Tours will make sure your journey goes off without a hitch. Don’t settle for anything less.

Family of four enjoyed the stay as we began (15/7/11) and concluded (24/7/11) our safari in Tanzania. Checked in at 2 am, and they had upgraded us to a two bedroom, two bath suite. Very much appreciated! Gave us an upgraded room poolside when we came back through since we were there in the daylight hours. Again, very much appreciated. Free wifi that the teenagers really appreciated. Breakfast buffet was good, and the pizzas from the Pawana restaurant hit the spot. Great old word design, and sits next to the Israeli embassy. So, this is either the most secure or most vulnerable hotel in town. Perfect place to stay when you transition between NBO airport and Wilson Airport, it is close to the center of Narobii. It is a colonial style with all the facilities including a pool. There is a good brasserie next to the pool for snacks and drinks, a formal restaurant and a great breakfast buffet.

Room Tip: Ask to stay in the main building rather than the secondary, separate building. It's nice over th...

Overall this is a good hotel representing good value for money. The location is excellent.
Unfortunately on our second stay a downgraded room without explanation or apology was allocated. This was eventually remedied and the booking of a First Class room was honoured. It did however leave a nasty taste in the mouth.

Currently staying at the fairview as I write this review. The hotel is gorgeous and a welcome escape from many of the over commercialized hotel chains. The rooms are simple but have everything you would need. The free wifi is quick and easy to access and the free breakfast is fantastic. The hotel grounds are beautifully kept. I would definitely recommend booking this very affordable hotel.

Over the past couple of years, several great hotels have opened in Nairobi (Tribe, sankara, ole sereni), but Fairview remains my favorite. The rooms (first class room) are very comfortable and spacious. What really makes the hotel special, though, is the setting. Here in the middle of bustling, somewhat chaotic Nairobi, is a nice oasis of green grass, trees, and quiet. It is centrally located (taxis needed wherever you go), has a nice breakfast buffet, and a great little outdoor lunch spot. The prices are very reasonable for what you get. They are often fully booked (as I write this from a different hotel in Nairobi because Fairview was full), so plan ahead! The only reasons I would consider staying elsewhere would be if business is taking you to another par of the city, if you want to be by village market (stay at tribe), or if you are on a quick overnight stopover from the airport and don't want to deal with Nairoi's traffic. Service is also superb - very friendly, helpful staff.

Was there 20 years ago, and loved it for it's charming gardens and quality. Spent a few days there in June 2011 and was thrilled to see it has improved to become even more special, with superb dining options, gracious staff, wonderful outdoor cafe with little braziers for the evening chill, and a sense of care and concern that is evident throughout. Love it, and highly suggest any traveler to Nairobi, for whatever purpose be it holiday or business, stay at the Fairview. It's beautiful but not stiff and formal, with a great location that is safe and convenient and a quick taxi ride to town.
