“Very Nice Hotel”
Reviewed February 9, 2014

We recently spent two nights at the Nairobi Serena in advance of a 12 day African safari and returned at the conclusion of the tour to inhabit a day room in advance of our international departure.

When I rate this a four star property, I am comparing it to other four star hotels I've visited in North America and Great Britain. Certainly, when compared to other hotels in East Africa, it would have to be at or near the very top.

First, security is extremely tight. Vehicles are swept for bombs, luggage is screened and guests pass through metal detectors. While this may be overkill (?), it does lend one a sense of security while on premises. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. It is apparently the location of choice for government and upper class Nairobi citizens to frequent for lunch and cocktails.

The pool area is very nice and the food is perfectly acceptable. The rooms are somewhat small, but clean and comfortable. It was the only hotel of six that we visited that had air conditioning. Wi-Fi was free and fast.

I can't imagine you would find a nicer, safer accommodation should you be looking for a room in Nairobi.

Came here after going to South Sudan and found this to be beautiful. Last time I was here was about 10 years ago and surprised to find it still in good shape. Place is worth the price and service in Kenya is always great...

Surprised to find it as good as it is! Good place to stay!

Arrived at 4 am after traveling for almost 2 days. Was extremely grateful they gave me early check in, rather then charging for an additional night!

While it is a chain hotel it still maintains its charm and unique personality. Incredibly gracious and informative staff. The rooms are comfortable and provided all needed amenities. Rooms could do with a bit of a refresh but nothing dramatic. Food was very good and the restaurant and bars are always accommodating. Gorgeous pool area that is a wonderful place to relax after a day of exploring the city. Excellent location.

Look forward to visiting Nairobi again and staying at the Serena. Also, the Serena in Stone Town, Zanzibar is beautiful. While I did not stay there I went for tea at Sunset and it is a beautiful, old world property with much history.

Was in Nairobi for a business trip for 4 days. Stayed at this hotel. The staff was great - very nice, helpful and prompt. The surroundings are also nice. Breakfast buffet/Room service was excellent. Spread/quality of food - all brilliant.

The room size is small though for the price you pay. Most hotels which charge this price would probably provide rooms which are twice in size.

Location was great. Close enough to the city centre.

Room Tip: Take a higher floor for a better view

Lovely hotel in great location.Great restaurant with theme nights and good Buffet breakfast.Be careful of booking tours through hotel which are very expensive the Karen Blixen museum and giraffe sanctuary are close by so a taxi ride is far cheaper traffic slows the journey but both can be done in an afternoon .Friendly helpful staff .

Great place to stay while in Nairobi. Excellent restaurant and bar. Great pool as well. Rooms are well maintained and well appointed. Service in all areas of the property is excellent. We had come in from a recent stay in Nakuru (Serova Lion Hill Lodge) which was quaint ( code for ' right out of the 50's ') so this was a nice treat. The area seems reasonably safe and there is some semblance of security on the premises which is comforting. Would be nice to have an ATM machine on the property but there's a bank across the street that has one if needed. A few little stores inside the hotel with incidentals makes it convenient if you forgot something.

The hotel is the perfect hotel in Nairobi. It's central n the front desk staff is very accomidating. Especially Faith and Helen. Faith took the time to find us a reseasonable flight to Mombasa n Kisumu. Amazing buffett there is a huge selection of items. The restaurant staff r always at your device. All the managers n severity guards are so polite. They go out of their way to make ur stay a memory. Laurence goes out of his way to make ur stay comfortable

The hotel itself is very well kept and has a moder touch to it. The ground and the heated swimming pool is very well maintained. The house keeping lady Mercey was the best house keeper I ever had she cleaned the room from top to bottom. The best part of the hotel is every nite there was someone to turn redo your bed so it's ready for u to slip rite in n fall asleep.

The gym is very well maintained with a big variety of equipment. The steam room n sauna is amazing

I would recommend this hotel also because of the staff.
