Owner description: The Karura Forest Reserve is an urban upland forest on the outskirts of Nairobi, the capital of Kenya. This remarkable geographical location and natural resource is one of the largest gazetted forests in the world fully within a city limits. It covers an area of about 1,000 ha (2,500 ac) and today is a shining example of how country-based corporate social responsibility and individual philanthropy can serve to secure and protect a country's natural resources. The forest offers eco-friendly opportunities for Kenyans and visitors to enjoy a leafy green respite from the hustle and bustle of the city to walk, to jog, or simply to sit quietly and experience the serenity of nature in all its diversity.
Useful Information: Wheelchair access, Food available for purchase, Bathroom facilities

The forest is vast and beautiful with a number of different routes. I take my dogs and they are able to run free in several areas, and the park clearly marks areas where they are not allowed off leash. The waterfall and caves are beautiful and opportunity to see birds, butterflies and lots of monkeys is always there. Best of all you feel safe.

We took a really nice walk here with my friend who lives nearby, and her dog. Well-marked trails led us to the waterfall. I'm not very athletic, and the trails were fine for me. Amazing that this is tucked away in north nairobi.

Since the Friends of Karura Forest Community Forest Association joined the Kenya Forest Service to take charge of Karura's management, the forest has become one of the safest and pleasantest locales in Nairobi.
Well worth a visit.

I just went the last Saturday and I really liked it. First of all the location is a great advantage due that is just 30ksh with a matatu from town (we stopped in Belgium embassy)

I went there with a friend because now they hire bikes and we got a lot of fun cycling. You can enjoy a nice sights and is really peaceful, places like the falls are pretty well indicated and I also saw more people just hiking with the family or running with the dog; I trust I will be back sooner.

The forest is very close to the city centre(15 minutes drive from city centre when there is no trafic Jam) , good for bird watching, fresh air, The forest is secure and very good for jogging/picnic . most people working close to the forest go for jogging especially during lunch hour, I take a walk or jog every 2-3 days a week since I work close to forest , Best time to visit is during day time( week days/weekends). Its good for groups and families
