Last week I had one of the most authentic and magical experiences I've had in Kenya so far (and I've been here a while and done quite a few things :)). I joined Kenya's Safari Simbaz crew for a 20km bike ride around the beautiful countryside near Kikuyu.
The Safari Simbaz are a professional bike crew led by Kenya's leading cycling champion - a guy called David Kinja. Althugh David does still occasionally compete, but he's getting older and now dedicates his life and indeed his winnings to a team of under privileged boys in the local slum - Kikuyu. His dream is to create future cycling champions and to give the boys skills which they can use in the future.
The Simbaz crew can create and guide rides for any experience level - from someone who just wants to potter round to the much more serious cyclists who fancy something high level and endurance focused.
One of the highlights of the trip was getting to meet David to behind the scenes - to see how he's looking after the boys - see where they lived, repair. Many of the crew joined us on our ride. Also - the money you pay for this experience goes right back into their community and supports the team in growing their facilities and getting closer to David's cream.
I can't recommend this highly enough - a must do in Nairobi.
They don't have a lot of info online because they're just starting to open up the experience to tourists but here's their Google + Page" https://plus.google.com/u/0/111782243387030502428/posts
