“Bush Camp in Nairobi”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2013

I'm not sure how to review this camp, as we were well taken care of by the friendly staff. If you are going on 10-14 days to Mara and Amboseli and plan on spending the next two weeks in Porini tented camps in those National parks you may want to skip this one.
However: If you only have a day or two available whilst in Nairobi on business and would like to get the feel of a tented camp in the bush - this camp is great!! You will sleep well and experience wildlife up close. You will also be taken good care of by the very friendly and service-minded staff. You will fall asleep to weird sounds from various animals and you will be safe and sleep well. You will also experience a tour around the National Park in close proximity to wildlife. You will eat excellent meals and feel pampered. So, yes - this camp can be recommended.
It is when you travel onwards to Porini Camps in Amboseli and/or Mara you will be stunned and realize how a safari with wildlife and tented camps is intended to be!!
With that in mind: This is unique with wildlife and wilderness so close to the Nairobi skyline.

After a tiring drive at end of May 2013 from Mombasa, we stopped off at NTC for one night. It was still low season and we were the only guests. We got a warm welcome from the staff and immediately liked the homely & comfortable look of the tented lounge. Porini specialises in making guests comfortable in their camps but at the same time manage to retain a sense of a real camping experience. They do without the OTT luxury that you find in many other camps.
To be able to get a sense of what it is like to stay in the African bush when still so near to a country's capital city is truly a special experience. We liked the simplicity of the mess tent and especially the sheepskin throws on the camp chairs - very snug on a chilly Nairobi night! There was no menu, just a set evening meal which was excellent. After dinner, we sat at the camp fire sipping a cognac & listening to the night sounds. Our tent & bed were very comfortable, and it was a treat to find hot water bottles under the duvet. While drifting off to sleep, we could hear hyenas whooping nearby. We slept very well - always a good sign.
The camp is due to be refurbished so I hope they don't lose the "camping" feel. It would be good to see a tent that has a few extras for those with mobility problems, and a few longer beds for those who are over 6 ft tall! A great place to start your holiday in Kenya! (There is no swimming pool, hence no rating for this facility). Our only criticism of the camp is that the location is a bit gloomy - it is down in a forested hollow. On the other hand, this means that is is completely hidden from other visitors to the park.

I returned to visit the Nairobi Tented camp after a couple of years and found it to be just as excellent as my first visit. The accommodation is luxurious, the food superb and I was treated like royalty by all the staff. Wonderful game drives and a truly memorable experience.
Once again this is a haven from the busy city of Nairobi and a well worthwhile visit for anyone visiting Kenya. I have been to other areas in Kenya but I will keep on coming back to Nairobi Tented Camp for the atmosphere, the service and of course the proximity to town and the animals.

Whilst the Nairobi National Park is amazing.....all those animals so close to the airports and city, this camp is a poor and rather second rate version of every other camp I have stayed at, in Kenya.
Having stayed at over 40 safari camps and lodges, over the last 15 years, I have to say this one was nothing special and expensive for the level of service and quality of the old tent. I never normally ever bother about the sleeping accommodation, when on a safari and certainly never feel the need to mention in a review, but am doing this time, since it was well below the average. Activities have to be booked, agreed and paid for separately to the main booking.
On the basis I love all things Kenya and am desperate for the National Park to not lose more land to development, as is currently being proposed, I am really sorry to have to write this review. The Park needs to generate money and tax, if it is to have any chance of long term survival, it is therefore a real pity that I feel the need to submit my honest, but less than positive review.
When in the Park and/ Nairobi generally, do make a bee line for the amazing Sheldrick Centre.....
You don't have to be a child to be moved to tears by the baby elephants and their stories...amazing!

Room Tip: All are rather dark and within trees, so no real worries where they put you ie all are much of a muc...

We enjoyed 3 days and 2nights here. What a fantastic setup, a luxury tented Eco-camp in the Nairobi National Park which is next to Nairobi City. Nothing blows the mind more that seeing rhinos (black and white), giraffes, zebras, antelopes etc etc as if in the wild but the city skyline in the background. At night, the campsite is peaceful and relaxed, with personalised service and great food. It is unfenced, so the possibility exists of animal encounters! You are not allowed to walk around at night without a guard. The first night we were sitting around the boma and were visited by a rhino.. We had to quietly go inside. Later a herd of buffalo visited. The game drives conducted by Ben were incredible and he even found us our lions, alas the leopard remained elusive.
Thanks for a fantastic magical experience.

For a group of three friends who have been delighting in a holiday in Kenya for the last five years the decision to stay at Nairobi Tented camp for our first night was the icing on the cake for this year's holiday. The location of the camp is enchanting. It is truly wild and yet so peaceful.
We loved the tents and could not have been more comfortable. The whole experience -spendid game drives ( and we are getting quite picky!) and a lovely bird walk, beautifully served meals, and just a lovely informal atmosphere were all down to the excellent staff.
We loved it and will go again

My husband and I spent 3 nights at Nairobi Tented camp. It was such a wonderful experience. The game rides are well organized and you do get a chance to see all of the animals you would like. While at the camp you will find the individuals there very helpful and caring, always there to assist you. It is like a 5 star hotel in the middle of a nature park. The food is amazing and plentiful. It is a good chance to meet others as well because it is small groups, only supporting up to 18 people. Bed and bathroom are nice and you can have a hot shower followed by a cocktail by the fire. Lovely place to stay, highly recommend.
