Attraction details
Owner description: Kitengela Glass split into two separately owned glass companies 20 years ago. Anselm's glass blowing studio (with 25 years of expertise) in the planetarium dome makes blown & cast items, beads, lighting and architectural installations in an eco-friendly environment next to the Nairobi National Park. He also has a small cafe serving fresh sandwiches, coffee and juices. Alternatively Nani's company offers stained glass, rudimentary glass blowing, accommodation and animals. A visit to both companies is recommended, as they have very different ethos and products. Welcome!

“For glass lovers”

If you like glass and the environment this is the place for you. What an extraordinary, quirky, eclectic place to visit. I loved it. From the furnaces and glass blowers to the workers making glass and cement tabletops the treasures here were the people, the glass and the interesting fun art. This was not easy to get to as the roads were quite rutted and primitive. But the trip was well worth it. All the glass that is made is made from recycled glass.

“Kitengela Glass: more than worth finding”
Reviewed December 20, 2010

Right 'around the corner' from Rolf's Place, we found 2 interrelated art studios (owned by mother and son respectively) that were more than worth a visit. We were fortunate to be given tours both of the foundry (owned by the son) and the artist's stained glass studio (the mother's bailiwick). They were quite distinct experiences - the foundry created production pieces for the most part but while we were there, they were created a Dale Chihuly-like 10 foot tall chandelier that was just amazing. The mother's studio is another story entirely - ideosyncratic and fabulous - small artworks, stained glass windows, jewely made from tusker bottle caps - we laughed and we bought.
