Owner description: The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (DSWT) Elephant Nursery in Nairobi National Park provides a safe haven to orphaned baby elephants rescued by the DSWT. The Nursery provides the first stage in the hand-rearing and development of milk dependent baby elephants. Once they graduate from the Nursery, aged 2-3 years, the elephants move to one of the DSWT's Reintegration Centres in Tsavo East National Park, from where they will ultimately return to the wild.

“lovely baby elephants”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 18, 2012

The DSWT raises orphan baby elephants whose mothers were often killed by poachers. From 11 - 12 it is feeding time. They come running into their feeding area where they drink milk out of a bottle. Very dearing to watch. Then they play around a bit. There are two rounds, first the very little ones and then the slightly older ones. Ver nice. Entrance fee KES 500 (around EUR 5).

Visiting hours between 11am-12pm. You get to see lots of elephants and them being fed/fooling around. Also a resident rhino (blind) and other animals. Thoroughly reccommeded.

“Two steps away from a baby elephant”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 18, 2012

The Sheldrick Wildlife Trust is one of the more reasonably priced tourist hotspots in Nairobi with an entry rate of around 5 Euros. The information about the work that the trust does is impressive and interesting and the surroundings are charming. At the center of attention are the orphaned elephant young which will be fed in front of you. It may sound like a terribly touristy thing to do, but on the occasion where I was there, not a single audience member did not feel rewarded in seeing these animals up close. The grounds overlook the national park and the view is stunning.

“Incredible experience, don't miss this!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 17, 2012

The Elephant orphanage at the Sheldrick center is truly amazing. You get to see ( up close) and learn all about each baby elephant. The staff are incredibly knowledgeable. I went expecting to see cute baby animals, and I left with a new-found appreciation for a magnificent species. It is only open form 11am to Noon so make sure you plan accordingly. Don't miss this, and be sure to bring your camera!
