“Lovely setting which is consistently let down by poor service and below average food”
Reviewed December 10, 2012

(this is the review which Tripadvisor has incorrectly posted against Tamambo Tapas Bar despite 4 requests from me to change it - so I have re-posted it in the right place)

Have eaten here several times over the last year or two.

During the day the garden is lovely, lots of space to move around and service is pretty good.

In the evening however, the trainee waiting staff and kitchen staff are let out to practise. We have had cold food, wrong orders, bread served after the main course, cheesecake which has clearly gone off, flat beer (reused from a previous drinker), all of which takes far too long to arrive. Need I go on?

In addition to the poor food, service is even worse. That's not to say there are not enough staff, rather there are too many who congregate around the door asking each other what to do, and most of whom do not know what they are supposed to do. The restaurant would be well advised to poach some of the great waiters from Talisman who set the standard in Kenya.

What a shame for one of the most pleasant surroundings to eat in Nairobi

“Ideal setting”

The hamburgers are second only to the Aero Club, and the setting in the garden, with the Ngong Hills behind, is unbeatable. Well worth a lunch or dinner.

“Magical place.........”
Reviewed November 20, 2012

Having read the book and watched the film at least 20 times, it was a dream come true to come to karen's home. The grounds were beautiful, the tour was superb and our guide was passionate and informative.
It was wonderful to see the costumes worn by Meryll and Robert in the film and you could understand how Karen Blixen fell in love with the place. To see the Ngong Hills in the distance brought you back to the beginning of the book/film.......... a must for any fan of the film/book.

It was not over crowded and you could wander the home and gardens at your own pace.

This is a lovely place but the food was not very good. I got the fish soup which was inedible with a few small tough pieces of fish in an overly spicy liquid. The chicken salad was very boring with just some slices of chicken and avocado over lettuce. The bathrooms were nice. The wait staff was pleasant. The ambiance is very nice,
