Description: Nairobi's iconic seafood restaurant which originally opened in August 1977, has recently moved from the Central Business District to the leafy suburbs of Karen at the Karen Blixen coffee Garden. The menu is a blend of the best of French, Asian and African cuisines with specialties such as the famous Prawns Piri Piri, and Chilli Crab which have earned the Tamarind worldwide fame.

“Excellent Sea Food”

The food and service was excellent.
We had the crab and king prawns followed by the crepes... yummy.

The interior is dated for a 5 Star restraurant but it is kept very clean.

“Don't understand what all of the fuss is about”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 17, 2010

Tamarind had good food but I don't understand what all of the the fuss is about as a top restaurant in Nairobi. The location is not that great (for evening, i.e. I understand that the Central Business District is not the safest location at night) and the ambiance is not memorable. My Kenyan clients do tell me, at least, that the Tamarind Restaurant in Mombasa is much better than the Nairobi location.

I think that the Osteria del Chianti, Moonflower (at Palacina) and others are better dinner choices to entertain.

I don't know the value / cost component - was here for a business dinner with a set menu.

“Outstanding Cuisine, Service & Atmosphere”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 8, 2010

We went here for a special wedding anniversary dinner and it exceeded our expectations - outstanding selection and quality of food, great selection of wines, superb service and a romantic atmosphere. What more could you ask for ? On a par with the very best - if you have an opportunity to go here - please do, you won't be disappointed !

“Best seafood in town”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 5, 2010

Despite being a good distance from the sea and Lake Victoria, the fish here is fantastic and the shellfish excellent.

Service is commendable and together with a rather predictabler pianist went to make for a great evening.
