Lovely, high quality food. Nice atmosphere. Good little play area for children too. Friendly staff. Difficult to fault.

“Good but missing a certain 'je ne sais quoi'”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 9, 2014

While researching for a nice place to eat on TripAdvisor I came across the Talisman! The reviews were great and thus my expectations were really up there! Some reviewers had used adjectives such as "divine" to describe the food and thus naturally I made a call to reserve a place for my family but we were told that the only available tables were outside and since it looked like it would rain - they advised us to book for the next day which we did. the reservation for an evening meal. We found our table set aside but the place was completely booked - there seemed to be a corporate event (people with tuxedos all round). The Ambience was good but not great. We got an outside table but sheltered next to a warm stove. The Food took some time to get ready and when it came I found my portion a bit small. I had asked for some Beef Steak - technically there were no accompaniments (fries, roast potatoes e.t.c) - I kind of expected some form of starch. The Kid's meals were fine (Fries and Fish fingers). The dessert was also OK but not memorable. So technically I don't have anything bad to say about the place but I kind of expected more!! From what I saw it is definitely a great place for couples but may not suit an evenings out with young impatient kids. For anyone wishing to pay them a visit - Kindly book in advance.

Thanks very much for taking the time to post your review. Our steaks are served with bhajia potatoes, apologies that this did not happen. We want to make sure each dish is fantastic, no matter how many people are here. We do have very friendly staff, please make a request for anything and we are always happy to assist. We hope you'll come again and give us a chance to wow you. Karibu.

“"The agora restaurant"”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 3, 2014

The agora restaurant! This is such a good concept, it is not simply a restaurant with alfresco dining, there is also an organic foodstuff market and there are art exhibitions and special events. The location is a little isolated for those without their own transport but I was lucky enough to be seated without a reservation on the three occasions that I have tried. The menu reflects a mixture of locally sourced foods with an African flavour and the more typical dishes, which will appeal to most tastes. This restaurant is far from the madding crowd and such a treat when someone else is paying!

“Good but not great”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 2, 2014

Based on past reviews, we made a weekend lunch reservation & looked forward to this dining experience. Regrettably, we were disappointed. Perhaps the mediocre service (we repeatedly had to actually go looking for the staff to inquire about multiple delays) impeded our enjoyment, but the food was not impressive, and in hindsight, we much preferred Karen Blixen Tamambo. We tried 4 entrees (1 of which, the pork dish, we found inedible). Though we thought the dessert would 'wow' us based on past reviews and the met descriptions, we literally ran out of time after a long wait for basic lunch service (other patrons around us ordered, were served, and finished their meals before we were even served). If we are spending $75 for lunch (entrees only for a family of 4) in a developing country, we expect decent food and good service; this experience left us vexed and perplexed.

Thanks for the review. We're certainly sorry to hear you were disappointed. Staff training is ongoing and we're working to improve and speed up service times, chef Marcus and his team are working hard to produce meals that are well above average. We hope you'll come again and give us another chance to wow you just like our past reviews. Karibu!

Great pork crackling! And the samosas are good too. Nice bar atmosphere - a meeting place after work especially on Friday...
