Seems there is a mix of reviews for two sister properties - el gezira gardens (right at the bank of the Nile a bit south of the ferry docks) and el gezira hotel (about 2 blocks into town down a side street). They are somehow connected but different places - so be sure to read the reviews for the place you intend to stay. We stayed at el gezira hotel and had a big ground level room with a balcony facing the garden/lake behind the hotel. it was extremely quiet - not only the hotel but all of the west bank. the location is good for easily reaching the sights as most are on the west bank. Also, the public ferry to reach the livelier east bank is both cheap and frequent.

Watch the prices - we had them arrange an airport transfer since we were first arriving in luxor and didn't want to start the trip hassling with taxi drivers. Their price was 120LE - which seemed reasonable seeing it is such a long drive around the south bridge. Asking around the real price is 80-100LE, which is fair enough they make some commission for their work. Just be aware you are paying for that service and could probably do better just going to a taxi driver.

Also, on the return we stayed at Boomerang on the east bank (separate review). A bit smaller and cheaper room but more central and easier for transport (train and airport).

Garden, swimming pool and food were very fine.
However, I had booked for a room with bathroom and didn't get one when I arrived (so separate bathroom/wc). If you want to be sure about a private bathroom, ask guarantees beforehand by email.
More important: 2 out of 3 nights were extremely noisy (couldn't sleep or read in my room till 11 pm resp. midnight because of very loud live music. If you like noisy party's, join the club (particularly elderly Germans which make 90% of the hotel population). If you don't (for example because you want to wake up early because of sightseeing and you prefer more then 5 -6 hours sleep), go somewhere else. Important: if you complain about it to the owner of the hotel, make sure to do this discretely otherwise he becomes upset.
Last but not least, the surrounding countryside is beautiful and location near the west bank of the Nile is convenient.

The Gezira Gardens is well located about 400 yards from the local ferry, on a lane leading from the Nile. The road along the Nile bank is being extended, so that the walk should be much easier in a few months time - it was a bit rough and uneven.
The rooms were adequate, without being over spacious, and the bathrooms functional but without extractor fans.
Staff were attentive and breakfast more than adequate. I would return here if Nile Valley and Sheharezade were not available.

Situated on the west bank it is a haven out of the rat race and quiet. A cheap ferry ride to the east bank where the action (resturants and bars) can be found, where the humming floating hotels on the water spew out smog inducing fumes and the more local attractions can be found such as luxor temple.
While we were there it wasn't busy. Bourgonvillia tumble from the walls and the pool is clean and cool; ideal to lounge at in between historical excursions to the nearby temples and valleys. The vendor is happy to help you with booking excursions, boat trips or balloon rides.

I stayed there for two nights. The rooms were clean. The staff was very friendly and helpful, especially Shariff. I would recommend a river-view room since the alley is a bit noisy (but the west bank is pretty quiet in general). The breakfast was fine and having coffee in the morning up on the roof makes for a great way to wake up.

The hotels rooms are OK, the price is reasonable for Luxor and the location is excellent if you want to view the sites on the West Bank. The staff were also OK up until payment when I did not receive change for the cash I handed over. The female attendant just ignored me once I paid and pretended that the amount was correct. She then feigned language difficulties when I asked her for change. The amount was negligible in the end it's just that you get tired of being treated as if your an endless wallet, as if just because your Caucasian that you can be ripped off. You expect everyone to try and rip you off once your on the street but you do not expect this at a half decent hotel. This spoiled my stay at this hotel.

The staff are great, the rooms are stopless clean, nothing posh about it , but the service is wonderful, i am made to feel as i am family, and they take great care of me, it is not far from all the history, just a taxi ride away from the Valley, or you can get a camel if you prefer, i would never stay anywhere else, being on my own i could not ask or expect better.
