I went for Gezira Garden (the owners have 2 hotels, the 'Garden' is what they call the bigger one with the swimming pool) because we have 3 small children, and I needed the convenience of an apartment rather than being split up in separate rooms.
Our apartment was 2 bedrooms with a balcony off one looking over the courtyard, a reasonably sized main room (with now redundant kitchen), doors/Juliet balcony over the rear garden and out toward the fields, and a small bathroom. It was on the first floor - we saw that the ground floor rooms had had the kitchen removed making them more spacious still. I assume this is a work in progress.
The bathroom was cramped and shabby and the shower connection leaked which was annoying, but overall it was pretty good for the price - about 60 euros a night, and the staff were really nice.
The hotel was very conveniently located on the West Bank and it had lots of different areas for eating / drinking / sitting / swimming etc. (pool was freezing in April though). When the kids were in bed we were able to sit down in the garden right below the room and have drinks/dinner which was served from the rooftop restaurant. Service was pretty good.
Luxor does have lots of hotel options, including some very 'resorty' places which could be anywhere in the world and just aren't our sort of thing. We preferred the laid-back feel of this place and enjoyed the splash of greenery within.
I would stay there again but I would ask for a room/apartment which has been recently refurbished.
