Nefertiti Hotel
Ranked #2 of 54 Hotels in Luxor
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed January 13, 2013

I stayed three nights at Nefertiti hotel with a couple of friends, and it was a very good experience. It's obviously not a luxury hotel, but I thought the rooms were surprisingly spacious and they were very clean (they were cleaned each day), and the beds were the best I've come across in Egypt (where I've lived for four months now).

The bathroom was clean and nice as well. It would have been good if it had a separate shower cubicle, but the floor dried very quickly so it wasn't a big problem.

The breakfast was decent, and the roof terrace very nice, but a tiny bit cold in winter. The location is very good as it's in the middle of Luxor, right next to Luxor Temple and a short walk away from the Luxor Museum. The only downside is that you will experience a lot of hassle everywhere in the East Bank, so if you look for complete peace and quiet the West Bank is better.

What really made me love the hotel was how accomodating they were. We arrived very early in the morning and they let us check in straight away, and the day we were leaving we had to check out by noon, but they still let us use all the hotel facilities and when we came back there in the afternoon they let us use a room until we left in the evening (with no extra charge) and even provided clean towels so we could have a shower. We had also booked some tours with them beforehand (which were interesting), and when we decided last minute to change one tour for another, they let us do it, even though they lost money on it. They really try their best to give you a pleasant stay, and the fact that there are no rigid rules makes it very relaxing. I would definitely reccomend this hotel.

So many positive things about this hotel! Great email communication before arrival, pickup at the train station, pleasant and clean room, great staff, good food. And of course the best thing of all is the rooftop patio. The view took my breath away first seeing it at night upon arrival...the temple and ave. of the sphinxes are right there with the theban hills in the background! what a great place to relax and unwind after busy days in luxor. Then you get to wake up and have the best breakfast buffet in egypt on the patio. My partner and I also took a tour of the west bank with Aladdin who was both informative and funny. it was a great and inexpensive way to tour that area with a small group of travelers. If i am ever lucky enough to get back to luxor i will definitely stay at Nefertiti Hotel!

Location is perfect, at walking distance to the Temples of Karnak and Luxor. Also walking distance to the train station. Hotel provides free transfer from the train station if requested in advance. Breakfast at the restaurant in the rooftop also a plus. Staff is very helpful and friendly.

What an oasis of calm in a busy country! We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived after traveling from Cairo. The friendly staff helped us instantly relax and feel at home. The food at the restaurant is excellent! And the view from the roof is lovely!

Nefertiti Hotel benefits from its rooftop terrace as you can have breakfast with a great view of the Avenue of Sphixes and of the Valley of the Kings in the distance. Our room was clean and it was tidied every day, which was appreciated. The air-conditioning system was quite old and quite loud but we were so knackered from our trips that we slept through it all regardless. The ensuite shower/toilet was a tiny wet-room situation (where everything got wet - including the toilet roll) but the hot water worked a treat. Breakfast was generous with an egg station and cold cuts and cereals. Upon arrival, you are given a welcome drink as they talked you through their tour options. Aladin Tours was recommended on Lonely Planet and we did appreciate all the tours they sorted for us. Asides from the obligatory visits to "recommended" (read: guide/driver gets a cut) alabaster and perfume shops, the guide was very knowledgeable and helpful and the cars were nice, spacious and air-conditioned.

The sunset-on-the-Nile mini trip was lovely. There was not much wind so they gave us a motor boat instead of a felucca ride which was a great idea as we could see people struggling with their sails. The included visit to "Banana Island" was a bit of an odd thing as all we saw was a banana plantation and two baby crocodiles that were poked to show that they could snap.

All-in-all, the hotel was very nice if you're on a budget. Not all the staff were forthcoming with great customer service. The tour arranger person and the lady who I believe was the owner's wife were, however, really sweet and helpful. And lastly... avoid the pizza at the restaurant!

If you are going to Luxor, and are looking for a nice, reasonably priced hotel... this is the place to go.
The central location could not be better. The rooms are clean and attractive. Employees are friendly and helpful. The restaurant food is delicious (try the camel!).
You can sit up on their spacious roof, and look out across the Nile at Hatshepsut's Temple set into the mountains. Luxor Temple is just over to the left. Amazing view of an amazing city. We spent all of our free time up there.
Pound for pound our favourite hotel in Egypt.
If you're in Luxor- staying at this gem of a hotel is simply a no-brainer.

The best thing about this hotel is the staff and the food. Everybody is so polite, friendly & always helpful. And the food has just been amazing. All-in-all very good value for money, and highly recommendable. The only thing I can think of that was a tiny bit annoying was the odd mouldy smell coming through the bathroom window, and the fact that there was no place to put the shower head so you'd have to wash yourself using one hand to hold the shower head.
But if I ever end up in Luxor again, that's where I'll stay.
