“10 Things you need to know...”
Reviewed October 11, 2011

Stayed here a coupla times last month, here's what you need to know in bullet form to save you wading through all the reviews;

1. This is a GREAT little hotel sandwiched between the Steinberger Nile Palace and Sonesta St. George, right on the Nile.

2. Rooms are fantastic value, as little as £15 a night or £25 a night for the suites (try moneysupermarket.com) You can also email the hotel direct for a deal.

3. Small, friendly hotel with just over 70 rooms, unlike the impersonal neighbours with around 200-300 rooms each. Everyone remembers your name here.

4. Suites are the better bet, 2 balconies, 2 aircon units with remotes, 2 tv's with remotes (US movie channels!), 2 minibars, safe, massive double bed, sofa bed, 3 piece suite, 6 chairs, 3 tables etc. Not too many coat hangers. Soap/shower gel dispensers in bathroom. Good housekeeping service with the usual towel sculptures, etc. Plumbing can be a bit dodgy - toilet slow to refill, shower weak, lack of hot water early evening on occasion.

5. Five floors to the hotel. The best rooms view wise, are 505, 405, 305 followed by 506, 406, 306 - all suites. Rooms ending 03 and 04 are standard rooms with a decent view. Rooms ending 11 and 12 have a street view. Rooms ending 07,08,09 have a brick wall view of the Steinberger. Room 505 however, seems to be in permanent use by the Manager. Check the pics for views. Best rooms have view across Nile to Valley of the Kings - illuminated at night. One of the best views in the world?

6. Breakfasts are as good as any in Luxor; fried potatoes, sausages, eggs, tomatoes, toast, coffee, juice, cheeses, jams, fruit etc.

7. Great little pool, not too busy, not too many bratty kids. Lots of 'Ladies of a Certain Age' entertaining young Egyptian gentlemen friends. Some interesting combos.
The pool is open to non residents.

8. Use the laundry service, it's great! 24hr turnaround, a big bag of washing cost less than £5 washed, ironed and folded.

9. Great little jetty on the Nile, ideal for Felucca or Motor Boat pickup for a late afternoon trip (£3.00 an hour). The pool guy can organise for you.
However, it's used as a thouroghfare by Russian tour groups from Hurghada on a Nile day trip.

10. Hotel is right in the thick of all the action, ideal for walking to bars, restaurants, tat shops etc.

Five out of five for value for money!

We chose this hotel as it was reasonably priced for our budget and it promised Nile views! Up grading cheaply to a Junior suite we had an amazing view of the Nile and large clean comfortable rooms. We stayed here at the end of August and had a easy week getting up early for sightseeing and afternoons by pool. The hotel is small and friendly and for the price does what is should -it is clean comfortable and friendly and you get an okayish breakfast.
What does need to be noted is that Luxor is struggling post revolution with very few guests therefore be prepared to be hussled- folk are desperate to make a few quid. A few words of Arabic go a long way and take some time out for a relaxing time on a felucca. We reccommend for feluccas, taxis and general help and support and lovely conversation Ali and Yousef and The Nile Angel easily found opp the Winter Palace or email-apo_ali97@yahoo.com
Please go to Egypt it needs visitors and friends

Room Tip: Up grade cheaply for a Junior suite

I have nothing bad to say about the hotel. Friendly staff, very clean rooms, nice bathrooms, quiet and has nice pool. It has good location and good facilities. I have stayed only for a night, but it was very good, for sure it is good value for money.

Food at the hotel is average. The pool is small and dodgy when walking around it due to the white grating being not there or very weak due to degraging. The rooms are basic but come with a good view of the nile. The staff are very friendly and always willing to help. The hotel is situated in the centre of luxor which is handy but the hassel u got from the taxi drivers, the guys with the horse and carts and the shop owners is outragous,it kind of spoiled our holiday to be honest, just remember the phrase la shukra which means no thank you,u will defo need to know that 1. Overall i would not come back to luxor as its just not to my liking. Make the most of it if u go and do plenty of trips, dont go with the reps, just look for a place called african travel which is in the street directly across from the hotel entrance as we saved over 200 quid by going with them. also if you do go on the horse and cart rides then make sure you dont deviate from what you have paid for as they try to get u in to shops and all sorts, dont let them preasure u. Just remember la shukra,u will need it. Oh and never tell them u r new, just say u have been here since last week and you have seen everything. Would i go again "la shukra". Have fun

I stayed at the Luxor hotel. It was very clean and nice. Staff there were lovely. Food was nice. Pool was cleaned every day. If you needed to know anything or had a problem, staff were on hand to assist. My friend took ill while sightseeing by the Harbour and when she was brought back, the reception staff kept on trying to contact me, until they did, because my friend was ill and they wanted me to know. They also looked after her, until I arrived back at the hotel. Each day the maid made things out of yr towels/clothes. i.e. swan, man sunbathing etc. The maid was very helpful and lovely

Room Tip: We were on the 2nd floor and had a baloncy on the side of hotel and you could see right over the Riv...

The Lotus Hotel is just an average hotel with basic but adequate rooms. The beds are comfortable and sheets very clean. The TV only picks up a very limited reception but when you have a fantastic view of the Nile and the West Bank from your bedroom window who cares?

The breakfast was ok but the omelette chef was quite elusive! The pool was very nice and kept lovely and clean but the sun loungers were a bit shabby and you were in danger of splinters.

Location is quite good within easy walking distance of Luxor Temple and the town centre.

The hotel is nothing to get excited about but is very good value for the money and I would stay there again.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a room on the west side as the east side is very shaded and overlooked by the hote...

Hotel looks good from outside and in lobby; however rooms look old and need renovation. All rooms seem to have view to the nile, but in a aproximately 45 degree angle and hence windows are relatively small.
