Disappointed to read a review which claims neglect to this amazing project. I live close by the Avenue, a few yards away. Consider what has happened over the past couple of years. Funding for the development was suspended. Local people try to protect the excavations, they have not been neglected, what you see just has not yet been developed. Tourism to Luxor has suffered as have, and still are, the local people. The great plans that were for the area are now scrapped but very slowly restoration is going ahead. Visit again, but be fair and give peace a chance. Luxor and Karnak between them are a wonderful experience, not to be missed by anyone with opportunity to visit.

This processional avenue used to abruptly end at a mosque but that has now been relocated and section by section the avenue between Luxor and Karnak is being uncovered. Much work will be needed to complete this work but great credit must be given to the authorities for their boldness of action.
In the evening, the Luxor end of the avenue looks fabulous.

what's left of the Avenue on the side of Luxor temple is great, well preserved, lighted up well during night but the rest of it is neglected which actually considered by me as weird a bit but in general the scene is good

There are so many sphinxes, not all are in good condition but this adds to the magic. No crowds of people, no hassle, great

"Avenue of the Sphinxes" dates back to 380 BC is 230 feet wide and runs 1.5 miles from Luxor Temple to Karnak Temple. They have found 650 of maybe 1350 Sphinxes, many were under apartment buildings and they are still just right out in the open next to local streets. Amazing!
