“Basic Hotel and Great service”
Reviewed June 2, 2010

This hotel is located maybe 100m from the Ferry dock on the West side of the Nile in Luxor. very convenient.

The rooms were basic and maybe a little below my expectations, but the hotel was basic and clean, staff was great and helpful. Little internet room with a few computers and a print for a little $$ usage. Pool was awesome, hardly anyone there, and you had it to yourself.

Restaurant was the best part. Food was excellent, especially the breakfast. Located on the roof under a giant tent, its got some great views and picks up the breeze. If you don't stay here, at least stop in for a meal or two.

At about $50US per night, this is a safe clean budget place to stay and I recommend it.

I stayed here for 3 nights in May and had a really enjoyable time. The room was nice and clean and the staff was especially helpful. The Wi-Fi was pretty good though a little intermittent. When the owners found out it wasn't working they offered to let me use their personal internet connection which I thought was very nice of them. The rooftop restaurant is nice and offers a lovely view of the Nile and the East Bank of Luxor. The pool is an absolute OASIS after days of long, hot sightseeing. I practically lived in the pool when I wasn't out sightseeing. The only thing I would say is that you need to be a little open-minded when ordering from the kitchen as I think a few menu items were lost in translation. I ordered an omelet with spinach and cheese (suggested by the waiter) and ended up with an omelet with red and green peppers. I ordered a margarita pizza and ended up with a pizza with red and green peppers (especially confusing since there are basil plants growing near the pool and we had fresh tomatoes for breakfast every morning). I ordered a club sandwich and got some unidentified meat (maybe tuna?). All of the food was fine but it was somewhat of a surprise to see what I ended up with. The chicken shawarma, however, was excellent...I ordered it twice. At any rate, I would highly recommend staying here! Also, a note on tips: wait until you check out to put tips in a tip pot. This works out to be fairer to all of the workers as well as makes it easier on the guests so you aren't constantly spending your small change in tips. Believe me, when you actually acquire small change you should hang onto it because finding change is difficult in Egypt and spending large bills can be challenging.

Situated 100 meters from the ferry taking you from Central Luxor (East bank) to the relaxed West Bank.
Spotlessly clean rooms; relaxing swimming pool; beautiful roof top terrace for breakfast/lunch/dinner and a very friendly, helpfull staff.
Nice comfortable place for families with young kids.
Also for us (no kids): we enjoyed and would certainly recommend the hotel to all.

I'll second all other reviewers.

A bargain in Luxor, and so easily-reached, so convenient for the ferryboat, and pretty clean and comfortable.

Pool is a bit small and shallow though and free wi-fi was supposed to work, but didn't. A rare blip in an otherwise good stay.

Make sure to e-mail early to make your reservations.

Agree wholeheartedly with previous positive reviews. The staff really have it right at the Nile Valley. So good that were this hotel anywhere else in the world we would seek it out and stay at it -- that is, it is not just great compared to other hotels in Luxor, it is a great little hotel worldwide

The rooms were clean and quiet. The hotel pool great (a godsend in the afternoon in the Luxor heat), the restaurant food way above typical Egyptian hotel standards, etc etc.

Location: the west bank is definitely the place to stay. Quiet and very laid back, but a quick and cheap (1 Egyptian pound or US$0.16) ferry ride across main town.

We also had the Nile Valley hotel arrange tours for us: (i) 1 hr camel riding (we had a good time, but our butts were glad we only booked 1 hr), (ii) West bank tombs and temples (very good tour -- recommended -- and made much much easier having a driver and guide), and (iii) Luxor east bank (Karnack & Luxor temples) -- OK but can be easily done independently.

Overall: the Nile Valley Hotel is excellent and Luxor's sights fascinating.

I did not stay at this hotel. I did, however, eat in the lovely rooftop restaurant, with its great view of the East Bank in Luxor.

The food was excellent (and they serve liquor, unusual in Egypt). The staff were very polite, the restuarant was great, food well prepared. Service was excellent, for the first time in ages, as a solo female traveller, I was made to feel very welcome. If the rooms are in the same category as the service and the staff, and the condition of what I saw throughout the hotel lobby and restaurant, you would be well served to stay here. It is barely a minute's walk from where the ferry docks between the east and west banks. VERY convenient.

We arrived early morning from Cairo and were met by the hotel car at Luxor train station then transferred via the road bridge to the west bank and Nile valley hotel. We were welcomed immediately to a friendly atmosphere and an immaculately kept premises
The rooms were comfortable, bright and spotlessly clean with t.v., air/con, fridge and a small en-suit shower room and toilet. All the staff were very friendly, helpful and honest nothing was too much trouble they made it like a home from home, they truly are a great bunch of lads and a credit to Hamada and Karin.
The hotel is in a great location on the west bank right next to the ferry bus and local river taxis for easy access to the east bank Luxor and Karnak, while being only a short journey west to the valleys of kings and queens and a multitude of temples and tombs.
The hotel team can arrange everything to do with tours, taxis, falukas and just about anything you need to make your holiday run smoothly, they even got our train tickets back to Cairo when the station told us all trains were full.
To sum up we had a fantastic holiday the children loved it especially the swimming pool and family friendly atmosphere of all the staff, had some wonderful dishes in the rooftop restaurant including a great buffet breakfast every day. I would highly recommend the Nile Valley Hotel and Insh Allah we will return there in the not so distant future.
