“Charming Small Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 24, 2012

We didn't stay here but we would love to. It is situated on the West Bank of Luxor and we have used this hotel for two years as a place to have coffee after the trip across from the East Bank; eat lunch after a morning of sight seeing; or visit for an evening meal away from the hussle and bussle of Luxor. The roof top is a really lovely location to sit and relax and take in the views across Luxor. It has always been quiet (shame because they really do deserve more business) when we have visited but the staff are always friendly and pleased to see you and absolutely no hassle. Prices are reasonal (lunch LE100 for 2 and dinner with a bottle of wine LE220) and the public Ferry makes it really easy to access at night for dinner.

I went to Luxor with my wife and her parents and stayed at the Nile Valley Hotel. I was treated just like one of the family. All the staff worked very hard to make sure our time was pleasant and comfortable. We arrived late and were immediately shown to our rooms and then taken to the roof-top restaurant for a welcome drink. They arranged our felucca trip and our transportation to the Valley of Kings and other sites. The price was very competitive. In fact their relationship with tours is very amicable and they will work hard to accommodate all your wishes and requirements. The west bank is much quieter and the position of the hotel very convenient for links to all sites. If you stay there ask to use Ahmed Mohamed Omar's motor boat Karim II as he speaks good English and will take you wherever you want to go. The rooms are clean and well maintained with good views wherever you stay (river view or pool view). The pool is a lifeline and very pleasant to spend time between tours. The food is wholesome with enough variety to suit all pallettes

I recently stayed at the hotel along with a friend for a week. I had previously eaten in the restaurant on a number of occasions but hadn't actually stayed there before but had seen the rooms so I already had expectations of how our stay would be and I wasn't disappointed. The staff were always friendly and welcoming and happy to serve you, whether it be at reception or the restaurant where the food is good. The roof top restaurant has stunning views across the NIle to the East Bank and most rooms also have a NIle view. We each had a room so were able to experience two different types, one behind reception, the other by the pool, both were air conditioned and also had fans, both were en-suite. They were cleaned every day as if by magic (we never saw who carried out this work!) and the towels changed every day. I did think the hotel might be noisy being located so close to the ferry. This was not the case as, with the the changes to the landscape in front of the hotel over the last few years very little traffic / people pass the front of the hotel now. The owners are in in the morning and the evening and when not there are always contactable by 'phone. All in all we had a great stay. Thanks to everyone for looking after us and hope to stay with you again soon - enshallah

We recently stayed at The Nile Valley Hotel for nearly 2 weeks and had a great time. Very friendly staff who served us with a ready smile. The food was good and we always eat the local dishes to get a flavour of the country. The rooftop restaurant is a geat place to eat and watch the world go by. Our room was basic but comfortable and we had views of the park and the Nile from the balcony. The only disadvantage of the front rooms is that the people of the West Bank don't seem to go to bed at night but we soon got used to the hubbub and slept through it. The bathroom was adequate with a good shower over the bath and always plenty of hot water. The hotel has bicycles that we hired and went around the roads of the West Bank, a lovely way to see the local people and stop for a drink at a local bar. There are numerous boats to take you to the East Bank for 5 EL. There is a good sized pool and terrace with plenty of sunbeds. Also a poolside bar where you can drink while sitting in the pool on bar stools.

We just got back from a two-week trip to Egypt, with our first four nights at the Nile Valley Hotel. We booked it based on good reviews in the Lonely Planet and on Tripadvisor, and were very pleased with our choice. The hotel is about a 3 minute walk from the ferry landing at Al Gezira, making it very easy to get into Luxor town to see the sights. It's also perfect for visiting the West Bank sites, and we either took a taxi arranged through the hotel, or picked up a taxi or mini bus from the main road, to the ticket office.

The hotel staff were very welcoming and helpful. Breakfast on the roof terrace was pleasant and the staff were attentive. The manager, Hamada, was very kind and keen to make sure that we had all we needed. He arranged a taxi to take us to Aswan on our last day, stopping off at a couple of sights, with a driver that we had used before.

The swimming pool is really lovely, and a great bonus for a small hotel like this.

All in all, this was a great choice for us, as the staff seemed used to helping independent travellers make their own arrangements. It was great value as well. Thanks a really good stay.

Room Tip: Our room overlooked the pool and was very quiet.

This charming 3 star hotel has a perfect location on the West Bank of Luxor, next to the jetty. From the rooftop terrace, day and night, you have the best view ever on Luxor temple and the Nile river.

As we travelled with our 2 children we had booked the family room. This basic room has a (too) small bathroom with a bath and shower in one, two bedrooms connected by a door and is based on the ground floor. Unfortunately this room is based on the front side of the hotel and therefor resulted in lack of a good night sleep. Furthermore the toilet pot is leaking some water, leaving you with wet feet.

Breakfast is basic and cooked to order, which is nice. Of course this is served on the rooftop, making the start of the day very enjoyable.

The pool is of a nice size, surrounded by more than enough deck chairs for all guests.

The really nice owner arranged all sorts of trips that we asked for. To start with, he provided us with the hotel's motorboat to got to Karnak Temple to see the sound and light show. The next morning (really early) a very good English speaking guide took us to the Kings' Valley, Hatshepsut temple and Hamu temple, explaining all ancient Egyptian history to us, making us wish we had made this trip when we were in high school. (We would for sure have scored higher rates then...)

Lunch and dinner at the rooftop were perfect. The staff makes you feel welcome although they could speed up a bit. Waiting 45 minutes for lunch (while being the only guests) feels a bit on the long side.

To recap; this hotel is a great place when wanting to go in a less posh place than the western brand hotels n Luxor, without losing the hygiene!

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the back side of the hotel.

A seven night stay at the Nile Valley Hotel made the perfect base for a leisurely exploration of both the west and east banks of the Nile at Luxor in March 2012. Not only was the hotel perfectly located for sightseeing at famous tombs and temples, but also for the ferry across the river to bustling Luxor city. It was great to return to the quiet, cool and relaxing hotel after a busy day.
Hotel staff were friendly and helpful, spoke good English and made us feel comfortable and welcome. The roof terrace restaurant overlooking the river was a splendid viewpoint and we enjoyed all meals there. The menu is simple, the food cooked to order and includes Egyptian specialites as well as international dishes. Rooms are scrupulously clean, modestly comfortable and well-maintained. The swimming pool is a welcome bonus. I wholeheartedly recommend the Nile Valley Hotel to discerning visitors to Luxor who appreciate Egyptian hospitality at its best and whose main aim is to visit the archaeological sites and monuments.
