This was an excellent detour that I am glad we took.

Very interesting and less touristy!

I would recommend going.

“Hidden gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 1, 2013

This is The mortuary temple of Ramses III. It should be a must for anyone on the west bank. The temple is spectacular and retains many areas still with its original paintwork. Visually more impressive than Valley of the Kings. Highly recommended
There were two of us visiting and a taxi there and back with a three hour wait cost us 100le each about 20 pounds. We visited the valley of the workers as well.

“Ramses III hero of Egypt”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 26, 2013

The Egyptians under Ramses III fought off the Sea people, a force which threatened to take over the civilised world at the time. All other Mediterranean peoples fell and became engulfed by them but only Egypt stood and beat them. It was like the first ever world war, and Egypt under this Ramses won. You can read the display all over the outer walls and on some of the inner walls of this temple. This is so precious a record and really the only one of its type.

“Big. Quiet. Impressive.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 25, 2013

This Temple has a similar size and quality to Luxor Temple. Just quieter. Lots to see. For tips employees will take you into supposedly private areas - what you see in these in the way of decoration is quite amazing and better than Luxor / Karnak by a long way. Outside the main temple building are some Roman remains which in any other city would be a must see attraction. Staggering.
