I've been teaching the Temple of Amun at Karnak for 25 years and finally got to visit. Wow. Better and BIGGER than I've ever understood! The carvings are, where they have been protected from the elements and people's destructiveness, crisp and beautiful. There are even some colors preserved.
Give it all the time you can (I made two visits) and get a GOOD guide. And demand free time to wander around. This is MUCH more interesting than the pyramids.
Wear sunscreen and carry water. I suppose you'd say there are bathrooms, but the visitor center is a good ways from the Temple proper.
I did NOT go back for the Sound and Light show in the evening.
