“Valley of the Kings”
Reviewed August 16, 2013

After the Great Pyramids were built and looted, the later pharaohs decided on being a little sneaky by hiding their tombs. Unfortunately that did not prevent them from being looted as well. It did, however, allow for many tombs to be built in a very small area.

Typically you are given a period of time to visit your pick of three different tombs in an allotted amount of time before meeting to board your bus for the next portion of your tour. They are all different and well worth the time you have to explore the buried structures. It is a shame to be rushed after traveling such a long distance for a visit, but this is often the case.

A tip concerning the tourist starved merchants who will hound you enough to almost ruin your visit...Don't speak to them or make eye contact. As our guide suggested, "walk like the camel in the desert and be aware of all that is around you, without looking at anyone."

“A Must See attraction - Unique and memorable”
Reviewed August 9, 2013

We stayed a few hours at Valley of the Kings on an excursion from our Nile Cruise boat, and was so pleased this was included. The site at first glance looks very barren and unspectacular, but of course you aren't there for the mountains and rocks...the tombs (loads of them and many open to the public) are what it is all about.

We had a three-tomb ticket which enabled you to pick three of the many tombs open for viewing. Sadly you cannot take photos in the valley (we are not talking just in the tombs...photos are forbidden ANYWHERE in the valley and you are best to leave cameras on your tour bus).

There is a separate charge to visit Tutankhamen's tomb (works out around £10 I recall) but as we were pushed for time we didn't do that one, but we understand it is not as spectacular as many of the others anyway.

It gets very hot here, so visit as early as possible to avoid the extreme heat (and the crowds). You cannot go to Egypt and NOT see this...it's a MUST SEE!

We did the full program, no issues despite the political situation. All the best to Egypt, what an amazing country!
