I've stayed in this hotel for 1 night as part of my tour. I have to tell you from the beginning not to expect luxury at the hotel. It's actually quite basic and a bit dated.
The rooms however are quite clean and comfortable. There's air conditioning and other basic facilities in the rooms such as a TV, telephone, fridge (the fridge actually froze things rather than cooled them down - i put a bottle of water in there and it was frozen when i got it out the next day, but i didn't mind as it was good for a hot day) and towels, soap, etc. I think it was more than sufficient.

One thing i really did like is the roof. There is a small pool there to cool off and some sun chairs but there is also a cafe type of thing and tables to order meals/drinks. The view is just amazing from the roof, you can see the city and the Nile!
The staff were quite friendly and are happy to assist when asked.

On the ground floor, apart from the lobby/reception there is a restaurant. Breakfast was included in our price and it was quite good. It had good variety such as eggs, sausages, cereals, pastries and some egyptian cuisine. We did also have a three course dinner at that restaurant, it was cheap from memory, i think it worked out about $20 Australian. There was a large variety of things you can order from the menu both western food and egyptian food. The portions were quite big and the food was delicious. There is also a bar - i haven't been there though but i saw signs for happy hour.

There is also free wireless internet. Which is a plus :)

Location of the hotel was quite good. Close to the Nile and there were a convenience shop, pharmacy, shops and restaurants/cafes just down the road. It is also a short walk to Luxor temple.

Overall, it was a good value.

The only things i can really fault is that the hotel needs refurbishment as it is a bit outdated and the lifts were quite slow..

Opon arrival we were a little worried about the apearance of the hotel but once checked in and shown the room we were impressed by the spacious room overlooking the Nile. The staff are very good as well as the bar on the roof and heated pool.

Ask for a room high up to avoid traffic noise and room facing Nile.

My wife and i have been visiting Luxor for ten years sometimes twice a year because simply we both have a interest in Egyptology , We have stayed at the WInter Palace , the Sonesta and now the St Josephs. The reason we now stay at the St Jo,s is its a friendly family run hotel which gives us everything we need for a really good price . Roomservice is efficiant and very friendly , Our view was looikng over the Nile and down over Nile Street (the main road) Why do we like the view overlooking the main road is because we can see normal Egyption life going on a daily basis . We aint nosey but there is always something happening ! Sat outside on the balcony in the late evening with a Gin and Tonic watching life go by underneath is very very relaxing and thats a part of my holiday!
Upstairs on the roof bar , sipping a Stella watching the sunset after a weary day on the West Bank brilliant !
Recommend the St Josephs , yes !

The rooms were spacious and clean. Clean bedsheets, good quality toilet paper, proper power shower and powerful hairdryer. It's a very old building with old furniture and a rickety lift however all areas are kept very clean and the staff are reasonably friendly and helpful. For the price we had no complaints at all and would stay there again if on a limited budget

We have just returned from a week's staff at St Joseph. Agree with other reviews, appearance is a little dated, however rooms are very clean and could not be faulted. We had a Nile view room on 6th Floor and it did get noisy with the horns blaring from constant traffic from the main road. Fortunately, I had ear plugs so this did not bother me too much.
The beds were very comfortable and made every day for us. The room contained a small mini fridge and hair dryer. We did however take our own travel kettle which we used in the room. What we did miss was an iron which the hotel does not provide so do bring one along if you have a small travel iron.

The view of the sunset/sunrise over the nile was amazing. Temperatures averaged 40 degrees and over most days and the air con was brilliant. The rooftop pool, although small was more than adequate for our 10 year old.

Hearty breakfast in morning consisting of toast, cereals, local fruit (melons, grapes, bananas, dates), cheeses, eggs (boiled/omelette/fried), pancakes, french toast, egyptian sausage and mash. Dinner was a la carte 4 course meal with a decent choice of soup, starters, main and dessert with plenty of different types of steaks to choose from.

St Joseph's is conveniently located with easy access to taxis and horse carriages to take one to down town.

In case of accomodation in Luxor, it is hard to go wrong. The hotels are inexpensive and standard is higher than Cairo. This is a good place with small swimming pool on terrace. Staff was very helpful. They were quite happy to serve us breakfast half an hour early in morning on request. Definately recommended
