Short version: Very nice Hotel with spacey and clean rooms. Rather quite neighborhood. Beautiful garden. The staff is very friendly. The food tastes great.

Long version: My friend and I stayed for a weekend at this Hotel. It got recommended to us by our boss (we were working in Egypt at the time). We arrived by train and just walked the distance from the train station over to the national ferries (it's worth it if you don't have much luggage and want to experience the city itself). Also don't take a taxi right from the train station, you might get ripped off. When you arrive at the West Bank it's not far and rather easy to find if you follow the instructions on the way (the way is signposted). You can also use the many small boats to cross over the Nile if you don't want to go all the way to the national ferry. You get bombarded by requests on the way to the national ferry, so be prepared. The price of the ferry is next to nothing, but they only go every 30 minutes, so keep that in mind.
The Hotel itself is very nice and in a rather quiet neighborhood for Egypt. The room we we had was spacey and clean with a nice view over the Hotel garden. Speaking of the garden: it's very beautiful and relaxing. A lot of plants and birds. The food tastes great and you get big portions. There is also a rooftop terrace and each floor has a terrace as well. The staff is also very friendly. The Egyptian owner speaks English very well and was always helpful. He personally took us for a trip to the major archaeological sites by car (for an extra cost of course).
We can defiantly recommend this Hotel!

My wife and I loved this bargain hotel while we were staying there. The people are pleasant, the gardens are gorgeous and the food is good.
Sadly, we used the owner of the hotel as our taxi driver, who we really liked at that point.
But when our bill arrived, we were charged 300 Pounds for a taxi trip that had been clearly priced at 150 Pounds. This was already too high for the two-hour trip, but we were happy to pay the 150, which is less than ten dollars.
150 Pounds had been the explicitly agreed price, but now the owner insisted that 300 was the price and we must pay it. (The food was also comically overpriced, but at least there we never agreed to a price beforehand.)
We thought about calling the police, but the fraud was for another ten dollars.
Sad. In many ways, the Amon hotel encapsulated our Egypt trip as a whole. The people have the capacity to be very nice, but circumstances seem to have converted them into con artists.

Room Tip: Pay your bill every day, as soon as charges are incurred

My husband and I stayed three nights at Amon Hotel a couple weeks ago. So glad we found this place - it really was a great relaxing base for our time in Luxor. Food was always delicious and they made special accommodation for a very early morning breakfast on our last day there. They also helped us with a guide for our first day of exploring which I recommend. Honestly, their staff was the best we encountered on our entire trip.

We have just returned from another month at the Amon hotel, and can only say if we didn’t like it we would not keep returning. The father and son who run the hotel are always pleasant and very helpful, if you need anything just ask and they will do their best to help you. They can organise trips out to the tombs, or a cruise to Aswan. This year we did the cruise from Luxor to Aswan, which was very relaxing and enjoyable. They can also organise balloon trips. Food at the hotel is excellent and always freshly cooked. Meals are taken in the lovely tropical garden. All rooms overlook the gardens so you can sit on your balcony and admire the garden. Sometimes you may find egyptologists at the hotel. Being on the West Bank there is not the hassle you usually get on the east side. The local ferry to the east side is only a short walk away. If you don’t want to eat at the hotel, there are other places near by where you can eat. There is no laundry at the hotel but just outside there is a small laundry and they do a great job at a fraction of the cost in the UK. All being well we will be back next year. If you go up the stairs in the block at the front of the hotel, there is a sitting area on the roof where you can see to the hills and you may even see a hot air ballon going over.

Room Tip: All rooms overlook the garden.
