“Great country, lovely people”
Reviewed March 2, 2013

First of all I would say please visit Luxor. It is safe, the people are friendly (OK so there is some hassle out on the street but its part of the experience), and the weather is great.

As for the hotel, it has really made our holiday. My wife and I are staying for a week. As our time draws to a close we regret not booking for longer.

You couldn't ask more from the service. Very attentive, professional, friendly, and courteus. From the doorman, waiting staff, through to the cleaners on the night shift.

Food is very good. The other reviews cover the restaurants well however a special mention for the Thai restaurant as the food is amazing. This should be advertised externally as a restaurant in its own right its so good.

Our room was fine. If you can, go for a Nile view room.

The evening entertainment is good if somewhat repetitive. Not sure if this is because some hotel guests may only be staying for 2 nights, but if your stay is longer you realise its pretty much the same every night.

Its a cosmopolitan place. Although not full, which is a shame, the guests that are here represent many nationalities which makes for a nice atmosphere.

Overall great value for money in these austere times. Well worth the awards and accolades that adorn reception, recieved from well respected travel industry organisations.

We stayed here for a week through a holiday booked with thomsons.

The hotel is immaculate and the staff are really helpful and friendly... Especially one of the door guys who high fives you every time you see him.

The rooms are big and provide everything you need but they could do with modernising in terms of decor but I wouldn't let that stop me from staying again. Housekeeping came every day and were really good.

The view over the Nile from the sun loungers is perfect and very relaxing.

There are about 4 restaurants within the hotel complex (it's a bit like a little village) we only went to the Thai restaurant and it was nice.

We went on one of the boats docked outside the hotel which was lovely and well worth the money.. Which wasn't a lot I think for both of us it was under £10.

Breakfast was really nice.. Egg station, gorgeous fresh bread and lots of coffee!

Luxor is nice but due to lack of tourism you really do get hassle and it never really stops. I was very tired of it by the end.. But you have to feel sorry for these people they are trying to earn a living and have mouths to feed. I was always nice but firm.

Overall the facilities met our requirements and value for money was really good but the biggest bonus of this hotel is the staff. Friendly, attentive, happy!

Would def stay here again we returned to Luxor.

Oh and very central to a number of very nice restaurants.

Location is unbeatable with my room having a great view over the Nile.
Rooms looking a bit tired but a spot of redecoration would soon sort this.
Staff all very friendly and efficient. Sent clothes to the laundry and not only was it a prompt service but the shirts came back immaculate.
What I do find hard to believe is that if you want tobe able to make tea/coffee in your room there is a charge of £5 per day for a kettle

Many thanks for your comments here on Trip Advisor.
It was our pleasure to host you in our hotel.
It appears that you enjoyed your stay with us, your comments regarding our staff are very much appreciated.
We apologize if you were upset by the charge for tea and coffee making facilities.
May we kindly explain that it is not only a kettle but a tray which is freshly presented each day, delivered to your room containing quality tea and coffee and also a selection of hand made freshly baked bicuits.
We hope that you will stay with us for another time in the near future to enjoy more great views over the Nile.
Kind regards

We booked our hotel based on the reviews and were not disappointed.
On arrival we were greeted by a friendly doorman and given a drink of hibiscus juice whilst we checked in.
We were taken to our room which overlooked the courtyard area, the room was clean and well appointed. The entertainment could be heard and seen by our room and it finished at 10pm ,but for some people maybe this may could have caused some disturbance, it didn't bother us at all.
We booked half board and enjoyed a great buffet breakfast and we had our evening meal in the Nubian which some nights were buffet and sometimes a set menu ( which was very limited choice) but we really enjoyed the food.We had the option to eat at the Italian and Lebanese with a 40% discount or if they had a set menu night have that instead ( although we had to get that organised through reception)
The food was always very tasty and we suffered no tummy problems..
At lunchtime we would eat from a snack menu at a table overlooking the nile , it was reasonably priced and was approx £3/£5 for sandwiches/burgers.
If we return we will probably book bed and breakfast to experiment with the Thai restaurant onsite and the Japanese and Egyptian at the Sonesta St George a few doors away..
There was a pub opposite ( Kings head) if you wanted cheaper alcoholic drinks and a pharmacy next to the hotel and many mini marts ( selling water, snacks etc) nearby.
We enjoyed a great felucca ride with Arafat ( based at the hotel)..which stopped the hassle of haggling a deal as the prices are set..( just wished the hotel did Horse rides in the same way)..

Overall a lovely hotel with a beautiful setting overlooking the Nile, 15 mins walk from Luxor centre..
Staff very friendly and could not do enough to make your stay enjoyable..
The only negatives..a few boats were often moored next door at the pyramid isis and were noisy when relaxing on the sunbeds overlooking the Nile ( we noticed the difference when they sailed away !!) and the entertainment was very similar night after night..However we hope to return next year

Recent stay in Luxor was very nice and that was due to the beautiful hotel, The Nile Palace! Very nice rooms and service. So many places to explore and be outside with beautiful weather. The view from the pool was so amazing, and very relaxing. This was a Holy Land trip extension, so the hotel was not chosen by us, but we were very happy!

Room Tip: We had a courtyard balcony room which we like, but a little noisy if you choose to go to bed earlier...

First impressions are so important, and they impressed me. The hotel was kind enough to give us 2 rooms with an interconnecting door (without being asked), a little thing but it made our 7 night stay easier and more flexible. I loved our rooms with Nile view balconies; I would never get bored of watching the Nile and the valley of the Kings at sunset with the call to prayer echoing over the water. A Nile view room is very worth it. If you take a side view room ask for a room on the right hand side (if facing the Nile) as the hotel is horseshoe shaped and it will block your own view of the Valley of the Kings however it will still be a great view. Bring mini binoculars too as you can see a lot - even Queen Hatshepsut's temple - from the hotel if the sunlight is right.
We ate at the Lebanese which was excellent and they kindly let one of our party have Italian from the other restaurant, I guess this was more accommodating because there was a lack of tourists? The meat and fish in the Lebanese was excellent. The Italian was reasonably good. The cafe food was good too. Our favourite by far was the Thai restaurant, it looks over the Nile, has a Thai chef and lovely staff. They also offer the menu as pool snacks during the day. We also ate at 2 of the pool bars and this food was well cooked too. Overall food was very reliable and catered to most family tastes easily. Not quite enough variety to keep us interested for a week tho.
Breakfast was good, good choice and a eggs station for omelette and such.
(As an aside we also ate at the Sheraton, they welcomed us, offered us a discount on the buffet. The food was excellent with some traditional Egyptian dishes and they have a chef station making you dishes while you wait. We also ate at the Isis they have Italian and Chinese restaurants but because if the lack of tourists they'd move all the seating into a single main restaurant. It was cute that they'd laid out separate sections of tables in Chinese style and Italian style so you still got the 'flavour'.
We also had afternoon tea at the Winter Palace which was a nice experience but a little overrated. )
We'd normally go to more local restaurants but we had my parents with us and were given lots of dire warnings about Egypt-belly even by our Kuoni Rep so we played it safe.
As with many other reviewers we used taxis: Mr Fish and his 'nephew' Mr Bob. Always courteous and helpful.
For water turn left out of the hotel and there is an excellent, clean little supermarket just next door.
The bank at this hotel is not 24 hour but we did manage to use it a few times during the day. There is a pharmacy in the front if the hotel too. There is wifi but only in the pool, patio and bar areas.
I took the tea tray at £25 for the week, extra cups meant we shared it between the 2 rooms, it was well stocked and always replenished with extras if you needed.
We also took a felucca ride from the hotel, pre-agreed time and at a standard rate per hour, no haggling for once. If you get the chance, go with Captain Ash, he's a funny, knowledgeable and eloquent man, we learned a lot and had a lovely time.
My only real complaint is that the hotel on the left next to this one allows the large cruise ships to moor on its banks, this meant out first 3 days were plagued with diesel fumes and a constant vibration and rumble from the constantly running generators, it really did take the edge off our experience. My boyfriend found this particularly troubling and difficult to sleep. It also spoils the poolside atmosphere even though it doesn't block the view. I'm told such mooring is not actually permitted and is done outside the law, the Nile Palace should do more the get it stopped.
I would happily return to this hotel.
My other Egypt review is of Le Meridien Pyramids at Giza.
