Firstly can i say a very big thankyou to Emad and his team, during our stay from 26th December until 7th Jan we were on our honeymoon and everyone made us so very very welcome, such friendly, polite and helpfull staff, big up to the lifeguards, pool bar guys and restaurant staff and not forgetting Badwry. We will be back as soon as possible, 5star? more like 10star! highly recommended.
Happy New Year to all the staff and friends we have met at Sofitel Karnak.

Room Tip: Go for the pool view room, very pleasant and lovely sunsets whilst enjoying a beer or 3 ;-)

It seems I've found a lovely hotel in Egypt that I like and would happily return to if I feel the need to relax and not bother with any sightseeing,

The hotel is set in wonderful grounds that are really very well kept, The pool area is clean, neat and well looked after by the life guards and bar staff that serve in that area, The other parts of the public area's within the hotel are pleasant to sit in and people watch ( with a coffee )

The pool is superb and a refreshing extra as it’s heated and very agreeable to swim in during the cooler months of January, you’ll also find on site a sauna and Jacuzzi down at the health club area, along with tennis and football court’s and squash courts, plus a gym to keep you fit,

The main restaurant that serves the buffet breakfast and dinner is nice and well stocked with rather tasty food, breakfast in the morning is served from 5:30-10:30 and dinner is served from 19:00-22:30, (rather impressive opening hours if you ask me)

You can also grab a late continental breakfast from "Carter's Bar" from 10:30-12:00 noon,

For lunch and snacks there is the "Palmeraie" restaurant by the pool, really nice food there and all included in the all-inclusive package,

You get a bottle of mineral water every day delivered into your room when they make up your room when you’re out in the morning's, But you do have to pay for the soft drinks that you use from your mini bar fridge, but not that much, only LE 9.00 ( about a £1 ),

The guys that clean the rooms make every effort to make your stay memorable buy arranging the towel's into funny animals on your bed,
My room had air conditioning plus tea and coffee making facilities; also in the wardrobe you'll find an electronic safe that is also free to use (handy to store your passports)

TV in the room is good, lots of channels to choose from, many English, French, German and Italian, plus some Arabic and movie channel’s.

The hotel run's a shuttle boat and bus down to its sister hotel "The Winter Palace Hotel", the boat leave's every morning and afternoon at 11:30 and at 15:00 and returns back 45 min's later,

The shuttle bus leave's at 09:30 and at 16:00 and returns an hour later, But if you stay a little longer then never fear, a local taxi back should cost you never more than LE 50.00, And expect to be bombarded with requests to visit "the market" by the taxi driver,

The hotel has a cash machine and also a few little shop's to pick up those last minute knick-knacks before you return home or snack's for your room, plus there is a tailor shop on site that can help repair a suit or even make you a new one from scratch in a few days, also for the ladies’ there is a hair dresser's on site for any hair emergency’s.......

Never feel un-connected from the world either as the hotel has Wi-Fi in the room's at a charge or free Wi-Fi in the hotel lobby (but only an hour at a time, but all you have to do is log off and then back on again and your hour begins again) So you can keep your mate's on Facebook and Twitter all updated about what you've been up to and how nice the weather is,

There are plenty of trip's available from your tour guide once you've arrived but also to remember to shop around, some holiday companies will offer better rates than other, and some will even price match other operator’s, but once you get on your booked trip you will always end up with an Egyptian tour guide who is trained by the state and will give you some fascinating knowledge about the history and culture of your surroundings,

Trip's that I would recommend to take while here are to see the west bank and the valley of the king's plus also the east bank with Karnak temple and Luxor temple, Also if you’re feeling adventurous you could book yourself onto a hot air balloon ride to watch the sunrise, although it's a rather early start at around 4am,

All in all a very nice hotel and I would easily recommend it to anyone who needs a week or two away in the sun, With plenty to do and plenty to see around the local area, a very worthwhile trip and made all the more better by a team of friendly and helpful staff at the Sofitel Hotel Karnak,

Room Tip: Shop around for trips and remember to haggle the price and never fear of walking away from a price y...

Having been to Egypt before,I had no problems with the hotel and I found the service to be excellent,as I'm sure the drowning guy in the fantastic pool did when he was instantly rescued by a lifeguard.Who jumped into the water unwaveringly, not even bothering to ditch his new mobile phone beforehand.Luxor is what you make of it.You have to suspend belief and be prepared to put up with hassle on an unprecedented scale. As a seasoned traveller, personal relationships are a priority and I never had one so good as I did with a hotel taxi guy,Mr.Tarek Crocodile, maybe anywhere.A true gent, with a fantastic, new 7 seater with A/C and a TV playing whatever you wanted.Completely reliable and punctual,we entrusted our family in his expert care, including our kids.Between him and his cousin he never let us down.Impeccable manners and English even impressed Granny!!For family events, such as trips and activities, nothing was too much bother and done at great rates.More importantly, for Adult-Only events, his contacts and impressive haggling skills were critical.Clubs, beers, restaurants, essentially anything we wanted were all within his grasp. If there was hassle,he was the first man in to sort it out, quickly and efficiently.
So many people are completely put off the sites around Luxor and it's environs by the total head-melting hassle, which is just so bad now due to the lack of tourists. To them we are walking ATM machines. You need to have a reliable 'man on the ground'who can bypass the nastiness. There were 10 in our party and everybody waxed lyrical about Mr.Tarek Crocodile, from the kids to especially the adults.Even Gran was gushing about Mr.Alligator!! 'No Gran, that's Mr.Crocodile!!'Now that I know that Tarek will pick-up in Hurghada,Cairo, probably even in London,I will go back to Egypt.Crocodile is an island of sanity in a sea of madness and you can only enjoy, nae survive in places like this with local know-how and trustworthy locals.
The hotel is a cocooned environment and most pleasurable, but for us the freedom to explore was a local good man,his most affable cousin and a great set of wheels.

Room Tip: The good rooms depend on the time of year that you are going. One thing that I will do next time is t...

Returned last week after a 7 day all inclusive holiday. We last came 2 years ago when we did Bed & Breakfast but only wanting a 'flop and drop' holiday decided on AI this time round.

The food at breakfast was not that good, the choice of cooked food was vast but inedible for the most part, cereal was akin to bird food but the BREAD was to die for!! My partner had no quibbles as he loves eggs which you can have cooked fresh in the form of fried, scrambled or omlette. All incusive is still new to this hotel and they have still got a lot to 'get right'. In our earlier visits, you had tea and coffee sachets on the tables and you just got your own hot water. Now you have to wait for the beverage waiters to come round with their pots, which could result in a lengthy wait i can tell you!! The food served in the Opet restaurant in the evenings was very good with a wide range of choices. The lunch time food was also very good which was taken at the Palmerie pool bar restaurant.

The bedroom was adequate. It was cleaned thoroughly every day, but the bathroom was looking a tad tired and could do with a bit of a make over i.e. regrouting. I don't know why the previous contributor would have wanted the air conditioning - we had our heating on!! It was pretty chilling in the evenings - definitely need woollies at this time of year.

We were glad to see the chairs outside on the verandah had been covered as the birds had made quite a mess of the chair backs on our last visit but i think the covers could be cleaned a bit more often as bird poo is not what you want to see before you sit down to your brekkie!!!

Mohammed the pool attendant is a star - he placed our towels out for us every morning and was very attentive - we know it is in part to get tips but to be honest it was worth it to us, he genuinely was a very nice guy. The pool was spotless and the beds extremely comfortable. What better place to holiday with the superb garden surroundings and Nile view.

One trip we did do was afternoon tea at the Solitel Winter Palace - what a beautiful place!! We took the 3pm water taxi to Luxor - it stops right outside - beware the touts when you alight the boat - they hassle you to death! there nearly was another Death on the Nile i can tell you! The tea cost £30 sterling for two of us - it starts at 4pm and you catch the courtesy bus back from outside Hotel at 5pm - well worth every penny.

This was our third visit to this Hotel and we will be back next year without a doubt.

We enjoyed our stay here but a bit disappointed with a few things, which were compounded by our awful reception at airport. Thanks to reading the forum here we weren't ripped off as soon as we got of the plane - travelled all over the world and never had a reception like that so be warned and watch what you pay for the visa!
CONS:The rooms were ok but disappointed as this is a 5 star hotel. The shower was in the bath and only had a narrow glass shower panel which meant after every shower we had to use the towels to dry the floor which was like a swimming pool and very dangerous under foot. The room was airless and we reported the lack of air conditioning at reception only to be told that this was winter and it had been turned off and we didnt sleep well all week because of this. The hotel had no facility for currency exchange, something we have never encountered before, so had to make a journey into Luxor to change our money. There is an atm machine in the hotel lobby.... when it works! We were all inclusive and disappointed at the quality of the food in the Opet restaurant. This might have been down to the lack of people staying but when we went to eat at around 8pm found the food was not fresh or dishes replenished and similar for breakfast. We also had stomach problems as did other guests we spoke to.
PROS: The hotel's location is wonderful and away from all the hassle in Luxor and you cant beat sitting on the Opet restaurant verandah or watching the sunsets at the Sundowner bar and gazing out at the Nile and the Valley of Kings beyond. Breathtaking! The courtesy boat trip to the sister Sofitel Winter Palace (takes about 40 mins) in central Luxor is worth doing as is going in to look around the hotel. The pool area is well kept as are the gardens and the lunch at Palmerie, the swimming pool restaurant, was much better quality than the Opet as it was freshly cooked and the staff more attentive. Drinks were good quality for all inclusive and Carters Bar at night provided the only entertainment, which although repetitive was fine and the photos in the bar provided a good backdrop to the bar. Staff were overall very friendly and helpful.
We did a few trips: hot air balloon is awesome and I dont like heights! We visited Luxor and Karnak temples on our own .. only problem was the hassle from the locals which deterred us from going into town again. We had a guide for West Bank which made the trip memorable because of his knowledge - we will use him again! Always worth haggling about prices.
All in all a good stay and we would go back as the location of the hotel more than makes up for a few minor problems.

Overall it is pretty nice, the pool was heated which was great, hotel is on the Nile so superb view from pool area.

A little far from town so cab rides are a little expensive. Rooms are ok but a little outdated. My non smoking room smelled like smoke. The customer service was horrible throughout the stay. Checking in was painful, restaurant service was slow, etc. if you can isolate yourself from hotel staff you would really enjoy your stay
