“A Home From Home”
Reviewed July 25, 2011

Just spent another fortnight at the El Luxor. It is pretty quiet in Luxor at the moment so the management are doing extensive alterations to the Hotel. It is going to be fantastic when it is finished. They hope to have it finished around October. The Staff at the Hotel are first class, nothing is too much trouble for them. It was very hot there around 50c but the Swimming Pool is lovely with all the sun beds around it so you could just sit in the shade if you wanted. Its an exceptionally large pool so there is plenty of room, and plenty of Staff around to look after you. Had a lovely holiday there and will certainly go back again

This place was pretty nice. The pool was large and had nice seating with a pool bar that served food and drinks. The rooms were clean with nice beds and it seems to be a in good location by the water. I only stayed for one night but I thought it was very nice.

"Location couldn't be better....."
We stayed here for 03 nts..the three Goan Indian ladies!!! What we can rave about is the location, overlooking the Valley of the Kings on the banks of River Nile too close to everything, the dusk & dawn views from the miniscule balcony takes your breadth away!!!
On arrival early morning inspite of prior booking we were made to wait over 45 min & were given river facing room at the far end on top of the kitchen & exhausts with less than 10% occupancy , may be the Revolution & the off season ,anyway we hadnt booked a river facing so we could not grumble, no doubt had a pleasant & an enjoyable stay in Luxor ,exception the mattress would deep in the centre!!
The Breakfast was superbly set in beautiful Egyptian decor, the lavish buffet on the first day was just great with exception to the cheeses which were dry & hard, on subsequent days the croissantsa & pancakes became stale.,Enjoyed the fresh dates !!
The rates of dishes in the Pappalion restaurant were good & portions large but the important ingredients of the dishes like black olives & cheese went missing inspite of being described in the menu, but the portions large.
The taxi counter guy Naser a cool guy, he even compensated for our trip for his misinformation about sound & light language show, the office of karnac changed our tickets for the next days English show, & Naser provided with a free drop & pick up. Have to mention the driver of the cab who is a sincere guy , he returned our money purse which was left in the cab, we also used him to drop us to the airport.
We organised the Valley of Kings trip through Naser with an Egyptologist & did not feel cheated.
On the whole the experience in Luxor was not a pleasant one, first of all our rep Mahmood was a nasty one, then shoping ..has no limit in the escalation of prices, a jelebia worth 35 EP was quote as 350 , we indians know the art of bargaining & as they could not cheat us they swore & even insulted us , felt that they preferred the white race .
For a person interested in history & culture definitely there is too much to see & learn, we went upto Abu Simbal.
Oh ! the hotel reception staff quite nasty, inspite of paying for late charges, just before we could leave we got threatening calls to vacate immediately or they would charge us , well knowing that we had a flight to catch and not even 5% occupied rooms in the hotel..

Hopefully the tourism improves as the caleche & the falooka guys are without busines , they try to cheat you everywhere, starting from buying water to food etc etc

Room Tip: River facing is heavenly.

The hotel is a bit dated, but the beds were comfortable, it was very clean and the staff was friendly. The location is perfect for exploring the town and the monuments.

Centrally located in Luxor, and it was reasonable for 2 days, as we were out all day looking at Karnak, Valley of Kings and so on. The service were really the slowest and most unfriendliest I have experienced in Egypt. The bed was horrible, deformed much down the middle.
We will not stay there again.

I know Luxor is very depressed at the moment. Following a fantastic Nile Cruise with Sentido Group, I then went to El Luxor ( ex Mercure, ex Etap).
I have stayed here about 4 times over 10 years but the hotel is not progressing like the Sonesta or Nile Palace.
IF you can get a good price on this hotel (especialy a solo travellerwith , Non-Supplement, then go for it. BUT if you can afford another £100 or so, then the other hotels are far superior.
Whilst I stayed in a lovely King Sized Room & Bed, I had to move to disruption work of new reception area. (Fair enough as work needs doing,) Moved to a smaller twin room, with fantastic views over The Valleys, however there were 'mattress toppers on beds:_ & one ;'sinking' bed, I am sure the mattress was from 1997!
Of course things are bad from tourist point of view, but El Luxor needs to upgrage.
Lovely swimming pool & good B & B services. So the staff are good, but the Group needs to upgrade

Room Tip: Ask for nile view when you get there -
