“Very good again”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 23, 2014

We have stayed here several times over the last few years and once again it lived up to it's reputation.
Arrived after midnight and the hotel recognised us as previous guests and put us in the same room as last year.
Rooms are very comfortable with the usual facilities and a great view over the gardens.
Food at breakfast served buffet style either inside or outside the restaurant and was very good as was a meal we had by the swimming pool.
Service was friendly and efficient.
Would be happy to return again

We were upgraded to the Winter Palace Hotel Luxor and what a fabulous holiday we had. First time in Luxor and we stayed at what I would consider the best and the most famous hotel in Egypt. We were treated like royality and would definately go back to the Palace and Luxor. The country is safe and tourists need to go back. A big thank you to Freddie at Kwik Travel for booking us such a fabulous and value for money holiday we will booking with you again soon. A big thank you also to the fantastic staff the pool staff, waiters the cheeky chiefs, the maids, the gardeners and the management I will let the photos speak for themselves :)

The Winter Palace and Pavillon Winter - the most beautiful hotel in Luxor with a huge, stunningly beautiful garden. Wonderful swimming pools and pool service. Free wifi in most places. I stayed in the cheaper but excellent Pavillon which is the 4-5* new block in the back garden. Breakfast improved after I spoke to the manager about the standard having dropped from that of previous years but there is still a problem with flies and mosquitoes. Excellent, friendly service throughout the hotel. Great deals online at the moment. I will return.

We stayed yet again in room 4019 which overlooks the gardens and the pool and we were not disappointed. We always choose the Bed and Breakfast option as we like to eat out every night and have always felt that "All Inclusive" is rather restricting. There is a sad point this year as the Senior Receptionist, Mr Orabi retires. We have known him for over 20 years, firstly at the Tower,, Block, then at both The Pavillion and The Old Winter Palace. He has such a breadth of knowledge that he will be nigh on impossible to replace. He is without doubt the most thoughtful and professional hotel receptionist that we have ever met, and I know from my own experience that many of the other guests feel exactly the same way. We have just visited (April) and the flies and mosquito,'s were a bit of a problem, but were no match for Mr Hamdi's electronic "fly swat"
I would say to anyone visiting The Pavillion that the staff are still as committed as ever to the welfare of the guests. The gardens are as usual immaculate, oh that my lawn could look like their's. The pool is a veritable Oasis and all the staff around it are so obliging and helpful.
We shall be visiting again in October for 3 weeks and I have no doubt that we will enjoy our stay as much as we have always enjoyed it.

Room Tip: The rooms on the fourth and fifth floors are very quiet. 4020, 4019 and 4018 are in a particularly g...

The hotel itself is In The grounds of the old winter palace. The location is excellent for sightseeing right next to the Luxor palace. You can get a boat across to the West Bank for 50p for your whole family.

We stayed on an all inclusive package with first choice.

Our room was spacious and both the A/C and shower both worked well so a good start. There is a small fridge but a mini bar is not included in the all inclusive package and neither is room service. The bed was pretty hard and the pillows were like beach balls but I managed to sleep well.

Most rooms have a large balcony overlooking the impressive gardens and pool area. I had interconnecting rooms and it's a shame the interconnecting rooms have no doubles which I thought would be sensible given that they are designed for families. The staff managed to push our two singles together for the week!

The pool area itself is a decent size and the hotel were not very busy so there was no overcrowding or lack of sun beds, which are comfortable. There is also plenty of shade.

Food forms a major part of an AI package and sadly was not really up to par with the rest of the facilities.

Breakfast.

Pretty standard stuff. A small salad selection, cheese, breads, and a man cooking eggs. No fresh juice was served just a man with a cordial bottle making orange squash and a few others.

Lunch.

A small salad selection, lettuce, cucumber and tomato. Small bread rolls. Some tiny deserts and for main rice, potatoes one vegetable dish and a choice of chicken, beef stew and fish.

My wife is vegetarian so she basically had rice and vegetables for lunch and dinner all week.

Dinner.

Very disappointing and basically the same as lunch.

The non inclusive guests have access to food by the pool. AI guest have to get dressed and make their way to the buffet. Which is a pain as I was travelling with 3 children and wanted lunch by the pool. You have the option of buying sandwiches and fries or a decent salad but at £10 a go that adds up for a family of 5.

Another option is to wait until 3pm when you can get a sandwich and fries by the pool with the AI package. This is what we had to do so basically lunch isn't until 3pm, again a pain with hungry children. Also ice cream is only available after 3pm.

Drinks.

A fairly basic selection of fruit squash, coke and local beer. Wine is available in the buffet only or pay £6 to have a small glass at the bar.

The staff are all very helpful and seem happy to be there. Most will expect tipping often. We tipped a few pounds here and there to the pool man and waiters. I read that the average pay in Egypt is £45 a month for a school teacher so I guess they are all making small fortune.

I probably would not stay here again mainly because the food is so limiting and my children moaned all week and we had to eat out or pay for lunch by the pool. I spent about £500 on food that I hadn't budgeted for. If they improved the food choices and upgraded the quality a bit then I would probably come again.

Top top is to use the back exit to television street to avoid the hassle from the front gate.

We stayed at the Sofitel Pavilion Winter Palace Hotel from the end of March to early April, staying all inclusive with First Choice. The Hotel is located in the centre of Luxor and is attached to the older Winter Palace with fabulous large gardens and across the road to the Nile. Luxor and the Hotel are quiet at the moment with only a few tourists visiting but don't let this stop you from visiting!.

Everything about this Hotel is 5 star. We stayed in a double room facing the gardens on the 3rd floor. All the staff were friendly and couldn't do enough to help us have a great holiday. Starting with Ahmed on reception who was kind and always helpful, Mohammed and Hamid in the bar who always made sure your glass was full, the pool staff who always greeted us with a smile and knew exactly the best place by the pool. The room was cleaned efficiently every day with nice touches of flowers from the garden. Finally the waiters and the kitchen staff who always provide us with a creative range of food with great service.

The Hotel was a good base for exploring both the temples of Luxor and Karnak and many other historical sites. We would also advise visitors to explore Luxor using the back entrance to the Hotel which gives direct access to the roundabout at Television Street with all its fun and excitement! (The streets are very different between day and night - please go out in the evening as its an experience not to be missed!). Please go to Luxor if you can - the people and the culture is something not to be missed! This Hotel will not disappoint!!

Room Tip: Try and get a room overlooking the main gardens.
