Its an expensive place in Luxor. If you can afford it I am sure you will enjoy the most elegant, classic, beautiful stay in Upper Egypt. This hotel has history in every corner, the architecture, the design, the rooms, everything, plus a perfect Nile View. I enjoyed my early morning walk by Corniche there everyday

The Winter Palace is by far the best hotel in Luxor in terms of;
Location: Next to Luxor Temple, by the Nile and facing the Valley of the Kings.
History: One of the oldest hotels in Luxor (bar the new block)
Gardens and Pool: Lush gardens with a beautiful range of trees and flowers, many planted over 100 yes ago. Lovely big pool including pool bar.

We travelled to Luxor from Cairo on the train and were ready for a bit of luxury. We booked online direct with the hotel's sister hotel (the Winter Pavillon), but they did not have the booking. It didn't matter as there were plenty of rooms and we were upgraded from the Pavillon to the Winter Palace. The hotel was an easy ten minute walk from the train station so it was nice not to have to speak to the taxi drivers...

Needless to say there was no sign of any problems resulting from the recent revolution in Egypt. All the action was in Cairo and the curfew in place there was not being enforced in Luxor.

The building was opulent and well maintained. Plenty of high ceilings and impressive collonial style. The room was big, clean and comfortable and had a nice balcony overlooking the lush gardens. The wifi connection was weak in our room on the third floor, but seemed better on the lower floors. good. Otherwise everything in the room was great as you'd expect for the price.

Breakfast was excellent and varied.

The location was good too as it was directly opposite the Luxor Palace. We used the little tourist office next door (not the Thomson one, which was more expensive) who arranged an knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide called Bob for us for a decent price.

Recommended. Not the cheapest and the wifi isn't great, but otherwise I can't fault it. I'd also recommend Egypt as a destination. There are hardly any tourists at the moment so you get the sights to yourself!

stunning hotel in fantastic postion, when your at the pool you cant hear the noise from the road. We stayed in the newly re-furbished pavillion and I really cant find a fault with anything even the lift was state of the art. staff lovely but not over friendly.

This place is beautiful. In a great location. Only things I can say bad about it were: The bed was hard as a rock although I did sleep ok. The breakfast was horrible. It is amazing how much I missed pork products!! The gardens are beautiful and you are in walking distance of McDonalds and a Market for shopping. Across the street from McDonalds was Luxor Temple. Beautiful view from the 3 story of the McDonalds.

We stayed here for 2 nights following our Nile Cruise, with 2 boys aged 15 & 10. Our room was really lovely with a small balcony overlooking the Nile. The boys room also had the Nile view but was much smaller. The gardens were superb and the pool heated so we were all happy. The only let down to the stay was the appalling service. Our bed was set up as a twin when we arrived so needed to be made into a double, we had to wait far too long for bills to arrive, food to be served (45 minutes for dessert at pool cafe) and on the last day we waited 25 minutes for the bell boy to pick up our bags. After packing up and going downstairs to meet our driver to take us to the airport we still had to wait another 10 minutes for our bags to be put into the car. At breakfast we were taken to a table set up for 3 and then the waiter disappeared. We had to go and find someone to get us coffee and a fourth place setting. Spoons & cups missing from the table etc on the second morning. A staff member also recommended a good restaurant to us - called Sopra - and told us they took credit card, which of course they didn't - ended up being a bit embarrassing when it came time to pay the bill!

Elsewhere in Egypt we were surprised at how good the service was so this came as quite a shock considering the calibre and price of the hotel.

There was a computer under the stairs on the lower level for internet but it was a bit hit and miss although free.

Our boys did think the hotel was a bit "stuffy" for them but my husband & I loved it.

Stayed 3 nights 23 Jan, Winter Palace hotel. Staff very attentive on arrival. Although in the cheaper pavilion wing our room was spacious and the most stylish of our 6 hotel, 23 day Egypt trip, better than say the Mena House Oberoi, Giza @ 2.5 times the rate charged at the Winter Palace. King bed, good linen, spacious bathroom with plenty room for toiletry's. No robe/slippers. 26" flat TV, good channel choice.
Lovely stylish mature gardens. Poolside area; heated pool to 29C, comp skewer fruit brought round daily. Pool restaurant served a decent fish &
Chips but a kebab of chicken had been barbequed some hours before and kept warm; hence very dry: not acceptable at a hotel of this quality. Ate elsewhere for rest of stay.
