“The Winter Palace PAVILLON is excellently located, high quality and affordable. No better place to stay in Luxor!.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 21, 2010

The Winter Palace Hotel is a very grand colonial style hotel fronting the Nile a couple of minutes walk from Luxor Temple and the primary market area in Luxor. However, it is too expensive for us. So, by choosing the Winter Palace Pavillon (original spelling), we got the best of both worlds - a perfect location for Luxor with grand style but at affordable rates.

The Winter Palace Pavillon is a more modern building with very good rooms which is on the grounds of the older Winter Palace Hotel. Guests are fully entitled to use the facilities of the original hotel, including pool, bars, restaurants, library and so on. The management have done an excellent job to instil the same ethics of high-quality service in those who work at the Pavillon, such that we were made to feel entirely welcome as if we were staying at the original colonial hotel itself.

The gardens and pool area act as a beautiful oasis and a perfect tonic/contrast to the arid surroundings. There is a good selection of restaurants to suit a variety of affordability and the selection of cuisines is wide enough to meet most needs, including Egyptian, Indian, Italian, Western, etc.

The location is best in class in Luxor. Other hotels such as the Sheraton, Hilton, etc. are all a longer walk/short taxi ride to the centre of Luxor. Instead it is maximum 5 minutes walk to the market and temple area of Luxor from the Winter Palace complex.

We found Luxor itself to be very safe and everyone was very friendly. We expected to be hassled in the market a lot, but the traders were took 'No thanks" to mean no and in most cases respectfully did not persist. There is a good standard of English-speaking amongst those we encountered - better than expected.

The Luxor and Karnak Temples and Valley of the Kings are not to be missed. We would recommend using a guided tour for the Valley of the Kings part and we found Mr Hassany to be very very good. They can be found just outside the Winter Palace Hotel on the banks of the Nile (turn left if you are exiting the hotel entrance - they're just after the Carlson Wagolit office). We have some recollection of them being called "Abu Simbl" or something also. Our tour guide was called Maria, and had a Masters in Egyptology so she was very knowledgeable and, like everyone else, very friendly.

A wonderful traditional hotel, charm, beautiful garden, great pool area, history and definitely a 5-star hotel. A must to stay here if in Luxor.

It was worth staying at this old world, famous and fabulous hotel. We were surprised that is was so large, with the pool, restaurants and gardens surrounding the whole backside of the hotel! Service was wonderful. You are taken back to an elegant old era. Breakfast buffet is extensive. The hotel room was gigantic. Free wifi in the lobby is an added bonus!

We arrived by train at 6:00 am and had no problem with an early check in at no extra charge. The rooms were clean, staff was attentive, and willing to help with any question or problem we had. This hotel, was a great value, in a great location. The location is right around the corner from Luxor temple and right across from the Nile.
The hotel grounds were unbelievable; we enjoyed the clean pool and well kept gardens. A nice, relaxing stay. I can't say enough good things.

We arrived at the Winter Palace Hotel after a week cruising the Nile. Our first impression with this imposing Victorian facade was that this was a very special venue. It was so luxurious that we were afraid to look at the menu! We had a bed and breakfast deal so enjoyed a truly international restaurant experience. On the way through to our breakfast's, we caught a glimpse of several other restaurants which we could imagine the most important business men staying from all around the world. Fantastic! At the end of our stay, we were advised that Princess Diana had stayed here and was allowed to take a look at the room that Diana had stayed in. A most pleasant finale to the very best hotel that we ever enjoyed staying in. The rooms are enormous, the air conditioing (Extremely Important Mid Summer in Egypt) very efficient and the service provided second to none.

My wife, daughter and I have just spent a weeks holiday at The Winter Palace and found it very peaceful and relaxing after a weeks boat trip on the Nile
The staff were all very friendly and helpful, nothing seemed too much trouble.
The rooms were spacious and well furnished, and were kept very clean, with an ample supply of hot water and towels and linen changed every day
The resturant staff were all very good, as all food cooked to order.
Our rooms overlooked the gardens and the pool areas which suited us, as it was so quiet and peacefu away from the busy road in front of the hotell
Plenty of room and shade around the pools and ample supply of lay beds.
A nice touch was from the resturant staff was cold flannels and fruit ka-babs,the food served in the pool resturant for lunch and dinner was very good.
