“Outstanding Service and Advice”
Reviewed June 21, 2013

I have nothing but good things to say about this hotel. I'm an American student who was studying Arabic in Jordan, and traveled to Egypt for 5 days in early May. Booking was easy, the confirmation reply was nearly instantaneous, and they were able to arrange a taxi pickup from the Luxor Airport.

We didn't get to the hotel till after 11 pm at night, but Naser (the owner) welcomed us and we talked with him for an hour about our itinerary for the next day as well as about different issues going on in Egypt. We were speaking Arabic but his English is quite decent.

We were show to a clean, comfortable triple room with air-conditioning and a private bathroom. A much nicer room than we had been expecting.

We spent the next day touring the West Bank of Luxor (Haptsetshut Temple, Nebo Temple, Valley of the Kings, etc). Naser had arranged our taxi for us at a reasonable price, and also a faluka ride on the Nile that was one of the highlights of the trip. The second day (unfortunately our last) he tailor-made our schedule based on what we wanted to see, and there were no surprises when it came time to pay.

I would recommend this hotel to anybody without reservations...it is clean, quiet, well maintained, the staff are kind and helpful, the food is delicious, and the price is more than reasonable.

Also, anybody worried about the security situation in Egypt need not worry about Luxor. Aside from being practically no tourists at the sites, you would never have been able to tell there was a 'revolution'. The two friends travelling with me were girls, and they felt perfectly safe in Luxor (Cairo not so much).

We stayed in the Cleopatra in March 2013 not really knowing what to expect. After an efficient airport to hotel transfer from Ali we were immediately welcomed onto the roof terrace for the first of many teas and a shisha pipe. Ragab or Reggi as he likes to be known planned our tour itinerary for the next two days straight away. What followed was a weekend of hotel relaxation, great food cooked by the very sweet Mahmood and amazing sites with Reggi leading us and filling us with amazing facts. The hotel is perfect for visitors on a budget who want comfortable, friendly relaxing accommodation. P.S. No alcohol!

The Cleopatra has amazing views, delicious food, lovely staff, and clean rooms with nice bathrooms. It is absolutely the place to stay in Luxor, I would recommend to my closest friends and family. The only down fall is if you're used to traveling a little more independent and being able to ask for advice this isn't the place to go. With that being said it is the place to go if you want amazing food at the hotel and someone to help guide you through Luxor - whether it's tour guides or drivers, donkeys or bicycles, Nasir will make it happen and make sure you leave with a smile on your face.

What a friendly staff we found in this cozy hotel where we stayed for three unforgettable days. The view you get of the valley of the kings from the restaurant on the rooftop is breathtaking. The food is very nice and fresh, cooked by the smiley chef Mahmod. The soup is amazing. Ahmed, the receptionist is a lovely guy. He was always there to help us and after some minutes talking it felt like we good friends. The hotel owner is also a nice local man. He suggested us a really nice not pricey local Egyptologist as a tour guide and the price was reasonably lower then the average and even included the taxi on our last day back to the airport. Those guys really walk the extra mile and for that i highly recommend Cleopatra hotel.

I was met by a member of staff at the caoch/train station which was a relief because as soon as i stepped off the coach i was hassled by a dozen people offering hotels and taxis. I was taken to the port, over on a very short boat ride to Westbank and short ride to the hotel.

the hotel is situated in the rural back streets of the west bank, you will see horses and donkeys eating their grass and you really are experiencing real Luxor.

the hotel is in a very tranquil setting and the view from the balcony across fields and the vallye of the kings is beautiful and a literal breath of fresh air compared to the hassle and noise of the East bank.

Ragad met me and we shared some tea up on the balacony. He has excellent English and is an Egyptologist. He provided a very good value tour for two days of the valley of the kings, temple of Ramses III, Hatsepshut, felluka sunset trip, luxor temple and Karnak. When you consider his fees including all my entrance fees it was quite outstanding value ! He is fun and a offered either a detailed or lighter explanation of the temples and tombs that we explored. My favorite was the temple of Ramses III - not many tourists seem to go to this one and it is as spectacular as the main temples.

In the evening after my sunset felluca ride and trip to banana island (which is a farm not an island ! lol) any how it was interesting. In the evening the chef who i nicknamed "Frank" so i no longer remembe his real name, anyway he cooked the best food i have had in Egypt so far ! and i have lived in Hurghada for 3 months. he cooked Moussaka - i asked for him to add some ground beef to it (like my Mum used to in uk) and i have to say it was amazingly delicious !! teh following night i had an equally delicious chicken meal, all prepared fresh in the kitch on the roof top terrace.

If you stay in 5 star then thats nice, i also do this sometimes, i did this as as treat at the Movenpick in Aswan for a night. I have to say that the stay in Cleopatra was almost comparable at a sixth of the price !! great food, great views and relaxing and clean. Next time i am in Luxor there is no question of where i am staying.

Good luck and enjoy. Also realise the locals are a bit desperate for business at the moment as tourism is down. Most Egyptians are very friendly and want nothing from you but to share some time. you will however mainly meet those selling you felluca trips, or taxi rides/carriage rides. They can irritate as they can over charge. If you want a great ride through the back street markets then find Ali - he was great and it was only 40 EGP for an hr long tour round the back streets market that you would not do so well on your own as you would get hassled by shop keepers. If you dont want something then just say "leh shukran" - means no thank you. 90% will respond to this and leave you alone. try and spend time talking to locals, most are very very nice and want nothing from you. Many guides and those with felluca/horse and carriage will say somethign like "if you like my trip maybe you make me a present" - this seems pretty irritating, but just take it as part of their custom, they have no embarrasment in asking for money like the English (Although that seems convenient for them, lol). It is a cultural difference, but get used to it and dont take offence, after all they are offering you the option or not. You will have a great time and realise that some shedding of cash on route will be just part of the cheap cost of the trip and stay anyway.

I had a wonderful time and then went on to Aswan on the train that leaves at regular times in the day. enjoy :)

Room Tip: Get a room as high up as possible and at the back of the hotel for the views :)

I had an excellent and pleasant stay at the cleopatra hotel. For sure the best view of the mountain and valley of the kings up on the roof terrace. Very friendly and easygoing staff and the food was very tasteful. They have an in house tourguide and I took tours with him to the mountain and the local markets. I had a very good time with him. Overall I would definitely recommend this place to everyone who is interested in seeing all the wonders that Luxor has to offer.

What an amazing hotel, I personal feel it’s one of the best in the world. It’s peaceful, relaxing and the view off the rooftop is remarkable. Well sized rooms, very clean, bed was very comfortable with very good bathroom facilities. For me it the staff that make this place special. They are all very friendly and helpful and go out their way to make sure you have a great holiday. The hotel organises several different tours and can even help with drivers and guides in other cities. I had an amazing time and I’m personal planning to go back. Thanks guys you are the best!
