Owner description: The Karnak Sound and Light Show highlights the dramatic history of ancient Thebes. The show narrates the achievements of some great Pharaohs, with poetic descriptions of the ancient treasures. As visitors walk through the complex, the pharaohs arise to tell the story of their interesting lives, as haunting music mysteriously flows through this ancient city. Ancient and poetic voices tell the visitors about the birth of Karnak temple and the heroic achievements of the pharaohs and the god Amun. It is an enchanting and supernatural experience to listen to sound effects and gaze at the magnificent ruins illuminated during the well-presented show.

Haunting voices of the pharaohs describing their realm, combined with music and light on a starry, warm night made this a wonderful evenings entertainment, highly recommend it.

We were fortunate to attend the temple the day before with a guide who did a brilliant job explaining the complex, detailed history and various locations.
When we inquired about the show - he stated it was our choice?
For $50.00 US each - I was expecting a brilliant light show and easy to follow dialogue - without my previous day before knowledge, I still found the show confusing and not interesting.
Many times I observed people stumble in the dark as limited lighting is provided // you must consider a very long walk from the car park and the first three section are standing so consider your fitness and bring your mobile with a light.
I agree that everyone comments and has different opinions on these shows - for us it was not worth $100 US.
Your choice.

The light show was interesting and Karnak itself is spectacular, however a few drawbacks make me hesitate from recommending this show. But first, a description of what happens, since it was hard to find one beforehand to really know what we were getting into.

Tours in different languages are offered at different times each night, so be sure to check the schedule. You arrive and buy tickets from the special light and sound kiosk, which is different from the normal ticket window. Then you walk to the entrance where the light and narration begins. You proceed through 3 stopping points and at each point, there are lights and narrated history. The final stopping point is auditorium seating on the far side of the lake where more history is narrated over the loudspeaker. I found this to be the least interesting part, although people who are unable to stand probably welcomed the opportunity to sit after several sections were standing only.

Pros
- the temple at night is even more daunting and incredible lit up!
- I did learn some interesting facts about the pharaohs that left their imprint upon the temple
-If your days are fully scheduled with the West Bank and the nighttime is the only time you can see Karnak, do this!

Cons
- for anyone with limited mobility, the lighting on the floor is minimal to non-existent during the first half of the tour, and the first half of the tour is standing only, with seats only at the end.
- You are limited to seeing only small areas of Karnak because sections are roped off at night. You can see more of the temple and the rooms during the day.

Ok if you are an obsessive academic in Egyptian history or this is your only chance to visit Karnak temple, you should do this. Otherwise at $50 per head, this is a very poor light and sound show. Absolutely nothing special and expensive

It takes you back in time as the show of sound and light is FANTASTIC means of learning what EACH Pharaoh
did to out perform each other, all one up man ship to better out perform how each pharaoh was better than the other. You cant comprehend the shear size of the object and pylons that connect Luxor to Karnack via the avenue of hundreds of sphinx, you can get a bit cold when you sit by water at the end so wrap up, The show lasts just over one hour but is well worth a visit. PUT IT ON YOUR MUST DO LIST
