Owner description: The Karnak Sound and Light Show highlights the dramatic history of ancient Thebes. The show narrates the achievements of some great Pharaohs, with poetic descriptions of the ancient treasures. As visitors walk through the complex, the pharaohs arise to tell the story of their interesting lives, as haunting music mysteriously flows through this ancient city. Ancient and poetic voices tell the visitors about the birth of Karnak temple and the heroic achievements of the pharaohs and the god Amun. It is an enchanting and supernatural experience to listen to sound effects and gaze at the magnificent ruins illuminated during the well-presented show.

One for uninformed - who will be not much better informed after the show. Pretty lights is about the substance of it. Go to a nightclub instead.

“Biggest waste of money!!!!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 15, 2013

My wife and I went to Luxor on our honeymoon and we loved it. There's so much history (and a lot more than in Cairo). The Valley of the Kings, the temples, the Artists' Tombs, Dandara. We hired a private history guide and learned a ton. I already want to go back. The LOW point of the trip was this sound and light show. It was unbelievably campy and dumb. I felt like I lost an hour of my life and part of my intellect. Even the "sounds" and "lights" were not entertaining - they were just floodlights and hidden speakers. If I sound a little harsh just picture this in your head - you're looking at a temple that's between 3000 and 5000 years old (depending on where you are). The history is incredible. The art is incredible. You love it and you're soaking it all up. Then the lights shut off and someone shines a cheap colored floodlight and a projector with a fuzzy image of a pharaoh on it. Instead of a real history lesson you just hear actors reciting how they "felt" when they built these things. I'm amazed at the good reviews on here because I heard a ton of people laughing and saying how idiotic it was as we left. The ONLY people I might recommend go do this are the ones who have little kids that might not have a full understanding of what they're seeing and need to supplement it with something more child-friendly. Do yourself a favor. If you have any interest in culture or history, stay away from any tourist traps like this in Luxor. Get some rest that night so you can get to the real sites very early in the morning. Visit sites most people don't see like the artist's tombs and Dandara because they're incredible. And if you have a guide keep in mind that he'll try to get you to go to these things because he's making extra off of them. The sound and light show tickets should be about $20. A balloon ride should be about $65. And cabs are very inexpensive.

“Worth visiting”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 10, 2013

We enjoyed the light show and had a great time taking photos as the atmosphere was great and the temple looked magnificent at night. You're made to walk through the temple and everyone is stopped at certain vantage points while some of the history behind the temple is explained along with the light show.
You need to check the timing beforehand as there are shows in various languages at different times.
We thought the lighting could be further improved upon, but still worth a visit.
