Delighted I want out here. Had very professional and informative tour by young cambridge student on gap year work experience. What these guys are doing is amazing. Brilliant way to spend an afternoon and my caliche appreciated it too. Horse got a nice shower and a roll in the sand pit ;)..was very comfortable out there and found the whole experience very rewarding.

If you do go out there ,, take a caliche not a taxi.

There is no charge or pressure to donate . I enquired about donations when I was there and they are gladly accepted (qualify for gift aid for the uk tax payer) .

Ace is worth a visit to see how wonderfully Kim and the team care for animals in Luxor. Beautiful new hospital and facilities to be proud of, a haven for animals in distress. Please visit and support this charity which is also sponsored by Martin Clunes.

From our first hour in Luxor it was openly evident that the life of a donkey or horse was hard with not much time for living as other equine creatures do in other parts of the world.
Over the days we had seen so many half-starved, rib-cages showing through sad and over-worked donkeys and horses, pulling over-loaded carts, leading tourists in carriages and other exploitation of these poor, pathetically over-worked animals.
One day we were in a privately-hired taxi and my friend said she wanted to take a photo of a healthy donkey somewhere: language was a barrier and our young taxi driver said he would take us to the hospital to see a donkey.
We drove past the hospital and out into the wilderness: i was most apprehensive and had flashes of us being sold to the white-slave trade as he turned down an insignificant, dirt road.
What a relief to pull up outside the Luxor ACE Animal Care building where he went inside and out came an Englishman to take us on a personal tour of this wonderful establishment which originate by two English women starting a water/shower - dirt bath facility many years ago.
Now, veterinary volunteers serve there and they carry out varied treatments for donkeys and other animals for free so those owners who would never take their animal to such a facility due to cost can do so - this is a haven for unhealthy donkeys.
We saw two differenct 'patients' while we were there - a donkey without a tail who had come off second best in a confrontation with another donkey and one with major ulcers. Both were being attended to outside in the sun, by dedicated staff.
We saw a baby donkey with its mother outside and growing healthily at this service which does a stirling job for donkeys and some other animals in and around Luxor.
We came back home and sent off a donation and will be doing so again as we are now in contact with them on Facebook so each week we learn of the onging, excellent work at a facility which is making a difference for the over-worked and low-priority donkeys - what a gem this place is.
I would not call it a tourist attraction but I would strongly recommend a visit if your reaction to the donkey/horse exploitation offends you as you enjoy all Luxor has to offer..... you too can make a difference by visiting, making a donation and you will leave knowing that all of your donation money will end up at ACE-Animal Care in Luxor Egypt.
