We loved the Desert Paradise Lodge for the lovely respite it provided away from the center of Luxor, the character of the place, and the exceptional hospitality. The garden is perfect, and even in chilly December we enjoyed meals and evening tea and drinks outside. The sunrise from the rooftop terrace is breathtaking, especially when there are hot air balloons drifting past.
We paid extra for the van and tour guide for two days, and our guide was truly excellent. (However, the Luxor restaurant that we were taken to on the second day was a pricey set-menu only place--if you will do a meal during a guided tour day, we suggest that you discuss the type of place and price range in advance.)
The pool looked inviting but the weather was too cool when we visited. The dinner we had one evening at the lodge was very good, as were the breakfasts. Wifi was free in the garden/lobby area.
Our only quibbles are minor--e.g. would have loved a cotton bath mat in the bathroom--but over all it was delightful. We highly recommend this lodge. And the cats are sweet and friendly.
