“Not bad not good”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 18, 2011

We ate here one night. Nice table near the window so you could see everything happening in the tourist souq. The waiter was very kind and helpful. The food was average. Some items was good, some were average.

“Should be in the top ten.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 30, 2009

I loved this restaurant. In four visits with friends we all had great dishes at great prices. Stella too. It is very clean and is a good location right in the souk. Almost next door is a fair trade store that is also a delight. Sorry i forgot the name but it is to the left as you exit the restaurant. Everything we ordered in this restaurant was excellent.

“Local alternative for Nefertiti residents”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 18, 2008

Located at the rear of the Nefertiti hotel, the Lotus is on the first floor above an internet cafe. Through its windows, diners can view the negotiations in the tourist souk.

The food is of fine quality and keenly priced. As always in Egypt, it is safer and more courteous to choose local dishes, so be brave and you will be rewarded. The vegetarian options are particularly recommended, although these are hard to identify from the succinct menu. My partner was particularly interested and impressed by an unusual spinach soup which from memory is listed as 'moulihar' (sorry if this is wrong or misleading - I should have taken notes).

Service is slightly over attentive. Tables are set well, with good quality cutlery and glassware. Our main gripe was with the tablecloths! On our first visit, we thought the tablecloth was stained, but considered ourselves unlucky. By our third meal, we realised that the tablecloth not been changed, and in fact a few more stains had been added. Our polite request to have the tablecloth replaced was ignored, until we insisted it be removed.

Tablecloths apart, our tummies report a good standard of hygiene at the Lotus.
