Habiba is a real find. The quality is high and not the low tourist level quality for fabrics and crafts so rampant in the souk. The prices are fair trade and fixed. They are also fair and reasonable. The cotton goods are especially attractive. In January, 2013, we found some fine men’s shirts (50EP) with simple and handsome embroidery on the yoke unlike any we saw in the souk and some lovely hand woven scarves in great color combinations. To get to Habiba from Nefertiti Hotel, exit the hotel, turn left (away from the souk) and walk up to the street. Turn left again and walk south. You will see a sign pointing down a narrow street. Habiba is a few shops in from that sign. It’s open late (until 10, I think).

I have purchased at both Habiba Gallery shops on many occasions. The young staff are very helpful and and hand embroider and bead many of the fabric items themselves. The ethnic stock of the shop is fascinating ranging from lanterns to jewellery and pottery. This shop is not to be missed!

Always visit this shop on my many trips to Luxor. There's another one near the Hilton Hotel which also has good quality products - slightly different range from the items in the shop in the souq. The owner is always great to talk to - she buys and sources the goods herself and where possible tries to deal direct with the maker of the goods. These are often women who then get to earn their own money to help themselves and their families. Lovely jewellery, boxes, scarves, towels, etc etc. Definitely worth a visit and it's a joy to go into a fixed-price shop (with air conditioning!) where you are not hassled and are just allowed to browse and buy or not buy.

This shop is well worth a visit. Although slightly tucked away on a side street off the main Tourist Souk it is a little Aladdin's Cave of beautiful local crafts.
There are items to cover all budgets and prices are marked - no haggling!
Staff are polite and helpful but not intrusive - some actually make some of the products that are on sale.
Well worth a visit for a handmade, traditional gift.
