“a gem of a restaurant”
Reviewed October 31, 2012

After a hot but rewarding morning exploring the West Bank, we were wilting and asked our tour guide to recommend a restaurant. Casablanca gave us everything we needed and much more - excellent Egyptian hospitality, freshly cooked local food, added extras without charge. It's so sad that so many really good businesses lack customers since the revolution - the owner, who loves to chat, said his normally bustling restaurant is often empty, as it was today. The food however was excellent and very good value.

“Too lovely for words”
Reviewed October 31, 2012

We went here on recommendation from our guide. It could easily have been 'mates favours' but it really wasn't. The place was super clean and the food amazing and utterly authentic. The owner didn't have a menu, but asked us what we fancied eating. He made a few suggestions and then stood and had a bit of a chat with us while we waited for our food. We had tasty stuffed pigeon and dips/salads to start and it was fabulously done. At the end of the meal we asked for a bit of baklava and kanafa with our turkish coffee and he agreed and it was only when he nipped back in a few minutes later with a box that we realised he'd gone out to get us our hearts desire rather than disappoint.
Egypt's tourism is suffering since the revolution and this kind of place makes you feel really sad for it. He worked so hard and the food was so good its such a shame that more people don't experience it.
Go and enjoy Casablanca, its more expensive than 'local' restaurants, but about the same you'd pay in Europe of America and totally worth it.

“Excellent Restaurant”
Reviewed May 6, 2012

We found this restaurant by accident as it off the main road, however it is definitely worth finding. The food was excellent, with a good range of Egyptian food and the British staples (I can recommend the steak) for those less adventurous. The waiting staff were very attentive and patiently explained every dish to us and the quality was easily comparable to a good restaurant in the UK. The complementary starters are great, and we ended up having more food than we could possibly eat. The price was a typical local one and two of us ate 2 courses plus numerous soft drinks for 120 £Egyptian (about £15).

Do not eat in the big chain hotels, they are expensive even for European standards, the quality and price are substantially better if you go to these local restaurants. I cannot recommend this one highly enough.

“Try it, you won't be disappointed!”
Reviewed March 2, 2012

Casablanca is towards the top of the street so you will have to walk past a lot of other restaurants before you see it, but it is worth it. The staff are welcoming and friendly and there is a new head waiter. The menu is varied and the food is cooked to order so you may have to wait a little while but they usually give you a complimentary starter - bread, tahini and aubergine - while you are waiting for your main course. They will try to cook food to your taste if you want something done a little differently. The staff are happy to chat to you while you wait if you want but they leave you alone when your food arrives - this is quite nice for me as I often eat there on my own. I have enjoyed everything I have eaten there and I have looked at their kitchen - it is small and very clean.
