This was a quick but fascinating stop on our tour. It is hard to imagine how they would have removed the obelisk if it had been finished, and transported it to the river. The thing is massive. Be advised - wear shoes that are sturdy and good for climbing over rock with sand and pebbles covering them. One older member of our tour group could not make the climb up to the obelisk. It is not a far walk, but it seems that they have left the quarry as it was found. I appreciate that rather than built up for the tourists. If you look at photos of it on line, you should have an idea what you are in for. I had loose sandals on, which was not a good choice, but my 5 year old daughter and I enjoyed the visit.
