“Strikingly different from Aswan city”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 26, 2012

Verdant instead of arid, fully rural -- so no restaurants. Village has many simple Nubian houses. People are very poor. Ferry only 2LE each way. Two locations on island and on East bank.

“interesting island ...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 8, 2012

I stayed on the island ... at the Movenpick's hotel.
the rest of the island is a lovely village, ruins of an ancient temple.

The island is overlooking Kitchener;s island , from the top ( the part where the Movenpick's located ) ...

the village has lots of trees, it looks like a jungle ... really beautiful ...

Worth visiting ... or sailing around ...

“Took a boat trip around the island.”

As wonderful as the view might have been with the bright blue Nile, a refreshing change to what you see in Cairo, Elephantine island looked kind of average from what i could see. Nice to see some cartouches on the rocks surrounding it and some of the structures on the island, but to be honest there isn't a lot there.

“E.Island, also called Aswan Island”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 23, 2012

Very interesting, this Al Jasheera. Its a long island with a low widh.Starting from the west you find this interesting old city Abu(5000 years Old). The idea is that Abu means *Elephant* or trading in Ivory. Also the big granite block in
the river has figures of this animal..After this digging side,a German/Swiss
archeologic undertaking for now about 38 years.
In the middlepart are 2 Nubian village's.And in the eastern part of the island is the Mövenpick hotel (was:Oberoi). You can visit the villages, its
nice but don't take much money with you. Everybody likes to do you a favor.
Easy way to come.Take the hotelboat shuttle to Marina, walk to the rightside untill you reacht the second stone pairs of stairs, on the waterfront is a small motorboat as a ferry to the island. 5 egyptian.
