There are many things I liked at the Basma Hotel. It's location is great - just up the street from the Nubian Museum and the Old Cataract Hotel. The building is constructed to withstand about any force nature could send against it. However, the rooms are dated and some basic amenities were missing from the rooms. I was surprised that there was no electric water heater for tea/coffee. The room, however, was clean and had a balcony overlooking the pool. The breakfast buffet was nice and a la carte choices for lunch were varied. The biggest disappointment, however, was the inability of staff to find enough small change when I chose to pay cash for a meal or drink. I didn't try to change large denomination egyption pounds, but it was impossible to get correct change when using a 100 LE bill, (about $16 US). That was unacceptable in an economy that is so dependent on tourism.More
