“Smoky, mosquito filled room”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 27, 2014 via mobile

Great location for views, though the hideous Movenpick tower is right across the Nile. Wifi only in the lobby, and it was spotty at best. Sub-par room, smelled like smoke. There was no screen over the broken fan in the bathroom, which on a mosquito filled river seems important. Breakfast buffet was marginal. Staff were helpful. Great outdoor market just across Cornich street. Overall not worth the ticket price.

I stayed here as part of a tour group through Egypt in December 2012 and it was my favourite of the whole trip. The rooms were comfortable and clean. I liked the layout - the rooms are accessed from outside, unlike a tall apartment block with halls and lifts, everyone has their own little unit with chairs out front to watch the world go by. The pool was great, as was the view over the river. We had breakfast in their dining room and it was one of the better experiences I had during our trip. I also ordered a few times from the pool area and no complaints at all! The location of the hotel was good - we walked to the markets and cafes easily. Aswan is lovely city, much cleaner than most other cities I visited in Egypt.

This place is truly awful. Our room was right on the Nile with a beautiful view through a big window...but dirty with many fixtures such as lights broken. The hot water ran out half way through my shower and never came back.

Worst of all was that we were eaten alive by mosquitoes (and no, it was not our own fault, we did not leave the window open at dusk, etc) — we had to get up in the middle of the night, seal the giant gap underneath the door, and spend two hours killing about 15 of them.

We checked out the next day, a day early, and went to Cairo. I had stupidly paid up front for 2 nights, and the hotel didn't want to give us a refund. Eventually they agreed to a refund, but only after out plane was due to depart! We rang a nice local fellow we had met the previous evening and asked him to swing by after we had left to collect the money — and I'm glad to say he did so, after much e-mailing and faxing of letters of authority from us. I'd much rather he had it than that awful hotel.

You have been warned!

We stayed at the Isis for two days after a night at Keylany. Three times as expensive it was a step up, but the noise and cold room was not acceptable to us.
The Isis is on the Nile, a world apart. It was wonderful to watch the boats and the sunset.
Hany at the reception was super helpful, courtious and friendly.
Rooms are spacious, well laid out and private with an outdoor sitting area. The breakfast buffet was tasty, varied and with healthy options (bad coffee though..!).
On the downside: There were mosquitoes in the room and no plug-in device was available. Spraying helped a bit. The staff was missing in action (request for towels, soap, etc) and quite noisy in the morning.

**The good:
- Location: on the Nile; in the centre of Aswan (where several facilities are nearby: ATMs, restaurants, etc); close to the market.
- View: nice one on the Nile. Many rooms affords a view across the pool (surrounded by a small garden) and the Nile; there is a lounge overlooking the Nile especially good to watch the sunset .
-Staff: Most of the staff are friendly and show willingness to help
**The bad:
- The overall impression about the rooms and bathroom is: worn-out and dirty (at least for the price).
- The bed linens were stained for both of the rooms we reserved (We asked the housekeeper to bring all the available clean ones to choose from and they were almost all stained).
- The shower curtains were also stained; there were some dead insects in the light fixture over the sink.
- The handle for the bidet shower was broken in my room (but was replaced immediately upon my complaint); in the other room the wheel of the AC thermostat was broken.
-Mosquitoes: This is maybe mainly because of the garden but if you stay there consider a repellent. Even when you do not leave the door open for long, mosquitoes can still enter through the gaps in the bathroom fan.
**Other random points:
- Food was ok in terms of variety and quality (breakfast is the only meal we have tried though).
- TV channel choices were ok (more channels were available than in the cruise ship we were staying just before).
- Many cats were wandering all over the hotel.

our room had a view of the pool. and a side view of the nile river. a nice view overall. but inside the room, it's quite average. nothing to write home about. the free WiFi is only in the main lobby, and for some reason, they would turn off the air conditioning after 8 pm making the lobby really hot and I'd end up trying to swat away mosquitoes. the same holds true for mornings as the wind breezes are often cool enough not to have air conditioning but by 10 or 11 am, it'd be a bit uncomfortable. good location though. would most likely skip this hotel if I'm to return.

Our experience started already in bad way: we found out at our arrival that our reservation (made three weeks before) to the other ISIS hotel in Aswan was not valid because the hotel had been closed 4 days before WITHOUT ANY INFORMATION! So the manager told us we had been moved to this other hotel (whose quality is extremely lower) for a "very special" price to compensate their mistake (only after we knew that the price was practically identical to their normal price). Since the beginning the impression was not very positive: we were asked to pay IMMEDIATELY and IN ADVANCE the entire price (were they afraid we would run away after seeing the rooms?). We were informed that, probably due to the "very high" season (we were practically the only clients) there were no double bed available, so they would move two single bed one near the other (ideal for a married couple). To summarize the rest, very small rooms, dirty and broken bedsheets, bath robinet constantly dropping water, bathtub not discharging water, aircon extremely noisy and initially not working. Outside the room, the swimming pool after the first day was not maintained, so the water was dirty and green colored (same tonality of the Nile). the only meal we had there was one breakfast, without buffet (due to the extreme shortage of clients) it took a long to get something and the quality was.... mmmm!
Positive aspects? The position on the Nile side is nice, the corniche is nice to walk, the (unfortunately very reduced) personnel was globally nice. Thanks God we didn't spend so much time there... Aswan is a great place, but not there!
