This is the only hotel you should stay at in Aswan
It’s gorgeous n set on a stunning part of the Nile
Deluxe room have a Nile view but are pricey. Standard rooms don’t but just been in that hotel is good enough. Great breakfastMore

Amazing!
Unfortunately I only stayed one night at this amazingly beautiful hotel, the rooms are big and beautiful, the bathrooms are spacious and the views from the breakfast is just breathtaking, staff is nice and helpful I don’t know if I am returning to Aswan but if I do I will only do it to stay here for a longer time, I absolutely recommend to stay here!

The Best
WOW! This would have to be one of the nicest hotels we have stayed at for quite some time. An absolute essential for escaping the heat in June!

We had a suite in the newer section, overlooking the pool and the Nile. We could not believe how beautiful the room was. The staff surrounding the pool - especially Peter, we so accommodating, as were the staff in the beauty spa. Absolutely beautiful experience - thank you so much.

excellent stay
The moment you enter this property you are treated like royalty. I spend one night here with my husband and loved every bit of it.i stayed in a nile facing suite and view from the balcony of the room was spectacular and the room was excellent too. the staff were extremely hospitable and very efficient.this is indeed the best place to stay in Aswan,had a wonderful stay and if I do return to Aswan this hotel will be my first choice

a historic hotel
In the heart of Aswan and the banks of Niles this historic British Colonial era hotel ( under the umbrella of Softel) is an elegant and must see place.We visited only for drinks as we were on a 4 night Niles cruise. After our wonderful visit we saw again the movie Murder in Niles as Agatha Christie wrote that book there and then was filmed in the same place.

Resting on its overplayed historical claims - look elsewhere
We have stayed twice at this hotel - once to anchor a Nile cruise and a second time to escape the traffic and pollution of Cairo. As you read Trip Advisor, there are lots of comments about the beauty of the setting (true) and the history of the hotel and its famous guests (also true) but that is where the glory stops and the reality sets in. We were fortunate to have special rates but if one was paying full price from Europe or the United States, you are paying for a roadside hotel's level of quality and not the luxury you would expect from the Sofitel brand - this hotel is in a sleepy southern Egyptian city and the Sofitel brand has walked away from any standards at this property.

The good:

-- The beds are comfortable and the blackout curtains work their magic.
-- The staff are incredibly friendly but you need to repeat your requests to achieve results
-- The new wing has large, comfortable rooms and the showers are great.

The bad:

-- The food - it's bad, really really bad. We tried several restaurants and struck out across the board. Room service was marginally better. Avoid the breakfast buffet - it was a sad state, poorly maintained/refreshed, and the staff in that restaurant could not care less about taking care of guests. We tried really hard to find something positive and ran from the buffet as fast as we could and resorted to room service which was not any better. We had high hopes for the terrace menu and struck out again - it is a shame that it is the same menu at lunch and dinner so you are really screwed for choices. Dinner at the Lebanese restaurant was marginally better. In sum, this hotel has given up on putting any effort into its dining options - the management has basically walked away from any quality control because they know they have their guests stuck on-site. I can't stress enough how bad the food is (and don't get me started on the prices).
-- Housekeeping struggles. We tried to use the in-room Nespresso machine - a nice touch for sure until you realize that no one has cleaned it - ever, not even once. Just running water through the machine without capsules left you with muddy water and residue. There was so much residue on the nozzle that we abandoned hope for any coffee. We had holes in our sheets and they didn't replenish items in the room.
-- The bathroom has no storage option - despite its massive size. If your traveling companion has a large amount of toiletries and make-up, good luck finding any place to put your stuff. It looks like they designed the room to have a cabinet and then never installed one.
-- The Spa is a dark, disgusting mess. While the treatment itself was okay (we have had better from the Asian therapists elsewhere in Egypt), we walked into the sauna/steamroom/hamman portion of the spa and were grossed out. There were multiple broken tiles, a disturbing moldy smell, and it was so dark you couldn't read any of the signs to understand what a room or feature was supposed to be. Definitely not a place you would want to walk around in with bare feet. The bathrobe they gave out was for a child and the staff was put out by a request for a larger (ie adult) size. The lack of care with their spa might explain why we were the only ones we saw ever in that space - we won't make that mistake again.

Realizing that one is limited in options in Aswan, skip the hype with this hotel - it can't rest on the beauty of its lobby or Agatha Christie and then it falls apart beyond this old facade.
