“Excellent Nubian food”
Reviewed October 2, 2012

It was my second time in Aswan and my first time in el dokka.

Enjoyed it to the most I went twice in two days. The portions are huge we were three people and ordered three main dishes with rice and French fries and salads we paid 120LE, 40LE per person which is relatively very cheep!

The tast was amaizing, Nubian cuisine is basic which almost anyone will enjoy.

The location and atmosphere is great and the weather was nice with a nice cool Nile breeze at night.

Not crowded which made the service exceptionally fast, the waiter is cheerful and always smiling.

Don't miss it, ull enjoy it.

“Good local cuisine”
Reviewed February 24, 2011

We went to el Dokka at night and it was an enchanting boat ride to the island that hosts this restaurant, although I would have liked to have seen it during the day as well but as it was our last night in Aswan this was not possible.

The food is very good (such large portions!) as are the smoothies (no alcohol served here). This coupled with efficient service and reasonable prices makes el Dokka a good place to eat in Aswan.

“Interesting location, good food and entertainment”
Reviewed December 18, 2010

The restraunts on an Island with good views across the Nile (easy to get to via a free ferry, we were staying at the Movenpick and they gave as a free boat ride back after the meal).

The menu, although not large, is good for Aswan and the was actually very nice. The meals come with a very large starter and so are great value for money.

When we were there, there was a lot of entertainment with dancers and general Nubian entertainments.

“Good food, unique location and good atmosphere”
Reviewed November 10, 2010

To get to El Dokka, which is located on an island in the Nile, you need to take the restaurant's own free ferry from the South end of the Corniche el Nil - look for a Coca Cola sign and, on the left, are some steps down to the river level. The restaurant has an outdoor area, but we chose to eat inside.

The menu was comprehensive and, at first sight, looked more expensive than some other restaurants in Aswan. However, be aware that the menu price (around 70 Egyptian pounds) of the main dish also includes soup, various salad starters and slices of melon. The only extras you will need to pay for are drinks (non-alcoholic) and coffee.

Portions were generous and the food was of a high-standard and well-presented. On the night we went, there was a Nubian floor show cabaret consisting of drummers, a wind instrument player, dancers and a Whirling Dervish. This added local authenticity and atmosphere to the evening and was great fun.

Be aware that this restaurant is also referred to as "The Nubian Restaurant" elsewhere on this site, although the last review was in 2009.

“El-Dokka is The Nubian Restaurant”
Reviewed February 11, 2010

There is a restr. listed in the main menu as the Nubian restaurant when it is actually El-Dokka.
The food is very nice but not Nubian! You can see the food listed in their menu in any restaurant in Cairo.
It is worth having a meal there. You'll love it.
