The hotel does not inspire much confidence at first glance (like soo many other egyptian budget hostels). But then again, at that price its a steal. so many budget hostels in egypt seem to have not been taken care since the 50s, but let that not deter you - the insides are mostly modern.

The owner Mohamed Mahgoub speaks good english and is a good guy, not pushy. we got the seats in the abu simbel trip we wanted.

The hotel is clean from inside. not the most modern (meramees was) but everything worked just right. The toilets were spotless clean, the room too.

Its just off the Corniche (?) and offers a decent view of the nile (but u get bored of the view by the time u reach aswan - we were atleast) and easily in walking distance of everything. there´s a small koshary joint nearby if u need veg food.

the rooms do look old BUT they work. like grandpa´s old car
The service is prompt - the meal box for abu simbel was made ready in time and the price of the trip was good.

The rooms are not noisy - u will get a good sleep for sure. in all a good place for backpackers but not for families with kids or honeymoon couples- the plentiful cruises are the right choice for them.

The roof had some random material scattered around in Sep 09 but was otherwise offering a decent view.

The Memnon hotel is located right in the centre town on the Corniche. The manager, Mohamed Mahgoub, was extremely helpful regarding any services we requested such as airport pick up, tours and information on the local area.

We booked direct with the hotel via email and always received prompt responses. Good breakfast box provided for tours which depart early.

Hotel and rooms are very clean and there's a great roof terrace to watch the sunset over the Nile.

Like many hotels in Aswan, they run a bus trip to Abu Simbel departing at 3am. We wouldn't recommend this type of tour (from any hotel), as you spend three hours in a mini bus getting there, one and a half hours at the temple itself and then another three hours getting back to Aswan. This, combined with the fact that all tour buses arrive at the same time due to the convoy system, makes for a very unsatisfying experience. If your budget allows, fly from Aswan - you won't regret it.

The hotel itself is in a great location, right by the Nile and the rooms were good for their price. My biggest problem that I had when me and my friends stayed here was the appalling service we received. The staff were unfriendly and did not appear to care at all which was a big shame to what would have been an enjoyable stay.

Right on the Nile with a gorgeous view come sunset time! The room and bathroom was basic but better than a hostel and the beds were clean too. Only downside? There were ants EVERYWHERE. The staff gave us some spray which quickly took care of the problem but with it being so hot outside we couldn't air out the room so it smelled pretty toxic for the remainder of our stay. We didn't stay inside the hotel all the much anyways so it was bearable.

Oh, and book the tours from the hotel! All tours in this area are similar in terms of quality and transport (especially when it comes to Abu Simbel) but Memnon had some of the best prices around.

One of the best 2star hotels. Had great time watching the beautiful view from the room's windows. The entrance is on a side street (needs to be renovated). Their tours are cheap and comfortable. No Wifi. I would stay here again

We had great time in this hotel. Nice rooms with great view on the Nile. Its location is in the center of the town near the Bazars. Mohamed, the manager did book us a fantastic cruise which was the highlight of our visit to Egypt. Highly reommending this hotel

I had read a number of reviews about the Memnon Hotel prior to staying there; some were bad but overall they were very good, so I had mixed expectations. There were a few good points about the hotel: clean bathroom, clean linens, excellent location, great view.

However, the room we had looked as if it hadn't been vacuumed in several weeks (it was pretty gross) and the air conditioner in our room was quite literally falling apart. I tried to adjust the temperature (to no avail as the knobs had come off long ago) and the frame fell off the wall. So, essentially, we had only two settings for the air conditioner - on or off. The entrance to the hotel is up a sketchy, crumbling staircase that does not inspire much confidence.

A number of the positive reviews mentioned the incredible service they had experienced at the Memnon. I must say that I don't think I stayed at the same place, as our rooms did not come with towels, and I had to request them twice. After asking the second time, one of the staff members reluctantly went to the supply closet to get some for me. As our flight back to Cairo wasn't until later in the day, we asked if we might extend our checkout by a couple of hours, and although the hotel was by no means full, we were told that keeping our rooms any longer would not be possible. Our only solution would be to pay for another room for that time period. Not once did I feel that the staff was motivated to provide service.

In addition, this hotel advertises that it has a pool that is filled during the summer months, which includes May. However, it was not filled when we were there, a big disappointment.

The price (60 Egyptian pounds) was of course, quite budget friendly, but clearly, we got what we paid for.
