“Average Hotel close to the Pyramids”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 6, 2013

I stayed at the Movenpick with a group on a sales incentive trip. There were 17 team members in total. The hotel is fine however not the best that we have stayed at. Rooms are neat and clean but are straight out of the 80s requiring major renovation. The staff at hand is helpful however would not win any service excellence awards anytime soon.

All in all an average hotel, since we went in the off-season, the price was good and we were close to the Pyramids though very far from Cairo which considering the traffic difficulties made for some major time spent commuting.

Nonetheless the with the Movenpick what you see is what you get... an average hotel which is fine for its price point.

Room Tip: Rooms need to be renovated... be sure to check yours and demand a better one if you get the more &qu...

We were collected from the airport by the Kuoni rep and on the way to hotel were pressured into booking trips , we ask if we could wait untill we got back to the hotel, relax then decide but was told no , so we picked where we wanted to go etc , the rep then ask a family the same thing , the family asked if they could decide later too which he said yes !! great start hey !. we arrived and checked in. The Movenpick is large clean hotel with many restaurants. We were booked for bed and breakfast. Our room was a good size and clean. Flatscreen tv and also internet access (which was at an extra charge). large wardrobe space. large sliding doors leading to a nice little area with table and chairs to chill out in. Slept well - quiet and beds were comfortable. There is a lovely large swimming pool and warm water , very chilled out place to be clean towels and attendant on hand. places to eat near by. toilets shower in close proximity. nice maintained gardens around the hotel complex had a nice choice of food in the the resturant. On our furst full day we met the rep and were informed due to the lack of people going we had to pay excess of £60 for the trips we were pressured into booking ! not our problem sorry , so we cancelled the trips we booked and decided we could go by ourselves and for cheaper ! we were not happy and made this clear and were ready to complain , we sorted things and went on our trips ... but again the guide took us to a papyrus museum not on our tour high pressure sales over priced painted paper. This all leaves a bad taste if you dont want these extra trips - please say so from the start. The Pyarmids, Cairo museum, Citadel, Memphis , Saqqara are a must see!! Bring water hat, shades and tippy money... damn it !
The Movenpick Hotel is a really nice place. Ireally liked it there ! Thank you ...
Return flight home we took a BMI flight best flight to date ! plane new looking. State of the art entertainment ! Great choice of film too ! nice food lovely staff....if doing duel Cairo /Nile cruise do the Cairo bit first ....then chill on the Nile !!! ....highlights the hotel, trips, sun - low points...tipping , extra excursions which not on the agreed itinerary - may appeal to some but not for us - don't like being pressured and intimidated into buying tat!!..... otherwise i would go back again ....

We had a dual resort holiday which started with a 7day Nile Cruise from Luxor to Aswan and we took an internal flight to Cairo for a 4 day stay- en route to the hotel from the airport we were pressured by the rep to book trips - we wanted to have time but were told they needed to make arrangements though the other party on the coach were told they had more time as they were being dropped off at an alternative hotel. So after booking we were called later to be told we had to pay extra supplement as the others had not booked the full day tour - this would have been another £60 each for the two days tours on top of the £200 we had already paid! We refused and said we would cancel our trips and he suddenly made alternative arrangements and waived the extra charges! I wasn't happy with the high -pressure sales tactics and this left a bitter taste in my mouth. So a word of warning - please don't feel pressured to do anything!! They will wait if they know there is a chance of booking you anyway!
The hotel - Movenpick Resort Cairo - Pyramid was a lovely place with a clean spacious room. There are a choice of restaurants to eat - a great pizza restaurant situated by the pool which we found that one pizza was enough for the two of us!! The pool area was beautiful with a areas sectioned off for small children and a deeper end. There was fresh towels provided everyday. The pool was very clean and could not be faulted. The gardens around the hotel were beautifully manicured and the whole area was clean and has a great recycling policy. There are small bins left for recycling rubbish - which is a great idea.
There is a rooftop café - which you can get to by walking out of the front of the hotel and a walk of about 50 metres. There is a rooftop bar / café where you get a fantastic view of the pyramids. Although someone obviously didn't think about locating a large pylon right next to the pyramids which kind of spoiled the view a little!!
A very helpful concierge got us a taxi to the shops at a cost of around £5 for hour to drive us wherever we wanted! Though - be warned - I don't think this car has ever seen an MOT - and would definitely fail if in the UK - but it was a fun adventure being driven around by someone who couldn't speak a word of English as we tried to describe where we wanted him to take us!
I would recommend using a taxi service to go to pyramids by your self rather than an organised trip - much cheaper - and its only up the road! - and you have more time to enjoy the whole experience of the pyramids without being rushed. Don't engage any of the locals in any conversation or take photos ..or even look at them - they will hassle you constantly... until the next unsuspecting tourist comes their way!
Our trip to the Khan el Kahili market was cancelled which was disappointing. We were told it was because it was in the middle of Ramadan and not the best place to go during this time.
I could not fault the hotel. It was clean, airy and the staff were very attentive and polite at all times. We booked this through Thomas Cook with Kuoni. In hindsight - I would probably have done the busy Cairo 4 days first then finish with the 7 day cruise as although that was full on with the excursions - there was also loads of time to chill out and watch the world go by as you travelled up and down the Nile.
Our flights to Egypt with Egyptair and the return with BMI was fantastic and the service was brilliant. In all, a lovely, unforgettable trip and one day I would love to return for a third time! A great holiday!!

The Jolie Ville Moevenpick Resort Cairo is by the Pyramids, with vast gardens, tennis courts, nice pool and lots of greenery. The bungalow style rooms are comfortable as well as spacious.
The food is good and the atmosphere is friendly with live music avaiable indoors as well as outdoors. The Moevenpick is a world famous swiss resort which had started its fame on the back of its food restaurants then developed its hotels chain. This resort has been managed by the Moevenpick for over 40 years and has been well maintained over the years. Shall be a key location when the new huge Egyptology museum shall open its doors almost across the street from it. It is recommended if you do not need to be in the center of town and wish to relax. Many couples go there to spend a romantic week end.

Located few minutes away from the pyramids in Giza but you cannot see the pyramids from any room or terrace. The reception and lobby is very small area. The main resturant is directly behind the door enterence. The rooms although clean yet are very tired and old fashion. The tv is still the old big one. The sink in the bathroom is producing a bad smell. The rooms are one floor bungalows but they are very crowded leaving no space for a descent garden. The food quality is average. I don't recommend this hotel. I prefer the nearby but more historical and elegant mean house oberoi which has also a perfect view of the pyramids.

We've stayed at many Movenpick hotels in EU but this was not one of the best. Staff was helpful at most times but need to gain more traction. We had to remind them several times for simple things like prompt room service. The property was modest -- not as nice as you expect of a Movenpick. Many areas seemed run down. However, the pool was nice. There were quite a few charges - especially the slow wi-fi. Certainly not seamless. Food choices were limited with the buffet, but a la carte was not. They could do a better job with housekeeping though. All in all, average. I am booked again for the middle of March, for 8 nights and wondering if I should return or look elsewhere.

The hotel has a long frontage on the busy Cairo-Alexandria road. It is a bungalow in gardens type. It is screened from the surrounding roads and buildings by quite a high wall but noise and dust enters the site which detracts from the otherwise pleasant and well maintained gardens. The pyramids are some distance away and only visible from the roof-top cafe in one corner of the site - mist (i.e. smog) often makes the view hazy. When we were there the entrance/reception/orangie restaurant area was undergoing renovation. This did not cause us any inconvenience. There is an excellent large swimming pool in the grounds. The hotel had few guests when we were there. We stayed for 3 nights and had pre-booked tours but I believe travel/cars/taxi services can be arranged by the hotel. There is a bank and one shop on-site.

Our 'superior' room was excellent. Modern, spotlessly clean, well lit, with large double comfortable bed, table and chairs. The en suite had a bath (somewhat narrow) as well as a shower. Outside was a terrace with table and chairs facing one of the garden areas. Other reviews suggest that not all rooms are of this standard.

The breakfast buffet was good (usual Movenpick standard) but there was no evening meal buffet because few guests were booked in. As we had booked half-board we were instead given a fixed menu option with little choice. We considered this a very poor alternative and complained, after which we were given a much wider and better choice. The food was well cooked and everything appeared clean. The junior hotel staff in particular (waiters etc) were helpful and eager to please.

Room Tip: Others reviews suggest you should ask for a refurbished room.
