Le Meridien Pyramids Hotel & Spa

Booked this in my first out of 2 trips to Cairo because I wanted to go to the Pyramids. It literally is 10-15min walk to the Pyramids and the pool gives you a great view of the Great Pyramid of Cheops and the middle pyramid of Kaferin. Awesome!

We got a free upgrade to a pool view room that's brand new and simply amazing. Can't say enough about the great showers in the room. The gym complex is also beautiful, with all the machines you need and an exercise room. I didn't try the massage/spa, but the sauna, hot tub, steam room, and showers were all very good. the food, while expensive as hell (US big city prices), was actually very good. The room service for breakfast also worked very well. Finally, we were able to get a driver/tour guide from the concierge (Saad is the owner/driver). While the prices were a little high, we definitely enjoyed the 1/2 day trip to the pyramids.

The only reason this is not a 5 out of 5 is due to the ridiculous pricing for internet, even for lobby wifi. It was around $25 USD for a day and I just cannot give any hotel a 5/5 when they charge that much for internet and the internet was slow as a snail.

Room Tip: Get the new wing, it's worth it.

I will explain my reason for saying the title and the rating of terrible.
My husband and I stayed here for the final two nights of our honeymoon and wish we never did. We weren't made to welcome and it most certainly did not feel like we were on honeymoon anymore.
When we arrived, we were shown to our room, clean tidy, then we realized, no tea or coffee making facilities, we asked reception to be told it isn't something that they offer at this moment in time, maybe in the future? (how can you be 5 star and not be able to offer tea and coffee making facilities is beyond me) with the exception of two staff members (one pool guy and one manager in the restaurant on our second night) when speaking to staff they all seemed miserable, and found it hard trying to get the staff to make eye contact with us, my husband and I would smile, to bet met with a blank stare if that.
Food is not of a very good standard and our first night the buffet looked more like a jumble sale, not a chef anywhere in sight for the stations they were meant to be at. I only eat fish as a meat and the selection that night was very very very poor, so I ordered a la carte (at extra cost) Not once did a waiter come up to us to check if meal was ok and looking around at other guests with equally miserable faces. My husband ate from the buffet, but again selection was poor. Second night food was a little better.
Sat by the pool all you can smell is sewerage... not pleasant.
It is possible we got the hotel on a bad two days, but for us this hotel ruined the last two days of our honeymoon, I was in tears in our room and my husband couldn't wait to leave for home.
The best we were treated was when checking out, needless to say I would not recommend anyone stay here.

Room Tip: Stay at a different hotel.

Le Meridien Pyramids hotel was wonderful for the brief time that we were there. We arrived as part of a tour group on our way to Cairo. Following a lengthy check-in, we were allowed to go to our room. The rooms are nicely appointed with very comfortable beds. The hotel offers balconies with pyramid view rooms at an additional cost but our rooms had both and we did not request it. I would not pay the upgrade fee if you only plan to use this hotel as a temporary stopping point in your travels. More often than not, you will be gone once the pyramids are visible (the fog and pollution is very high and the skies do not clear until 10 AM). The bathrooms were very luxurious with a unique shower, the view from the room was great, and the poolside bar looked inviting. We wanted a local experience so we ate in the lovely courtyard at Felafal (watch out for stray cats). For single women traveling alone, it is NOT recommended to travel unescorted outside the hotel. We were warned by more than one local to "Be Careful". Mena House is only a few blocks away...again, not a place to walk about so take a taxi.

We arose in time to have a delicious breakfast in the elegant dining room at the hotel. The breakfast was very well laid out with a nice selection of breakfast items. As part of an organized tour, we had to rush in order to meet our group in time so we had very little time to actually enjoy our surroundings. Lovely hotel, just situated in a very shady part of town. Next time, we will probably stay at the JW or Sofitel. They are closer to the attractions and in a safer part of town.

Room Tip: Do not pay for the upgrade to a pyramid view room unless you plan to be here for more than a day or...

A Beautiful hotel!!
This was our first stop when visiting Egypt and it was truly fantastic and very chaotic! Cairo itself is manic so coming back to this beautiful hotel at the end of the day was fantastic. The staff were very friendly and helpful and looked after us if we needed anything.
The rooms and communal areas were very clean and the minibar and coffees were regularly topped up, which was much needed after a day out in and around Cairo!! Breakfasts were great with plenty of variety and the staff were efficient and friendly and made sure that our every need was catered for.
The pool is absolutely amazing, the views of the pyramids are breath taking and the pool bar serves lovely cocktails! The second pool with the waterfall is fantastic, it was great for relaxing and splashing around. There are plenty of sun loungers and umbrella’s for when the heat becomes overwhelming.
Whilst staying here we visited pyramids at Saqqara, Dahshur and Giza which was truly amazing, we also took a trip up to Alexandria and the Mediterranean coast which was picture perfect! Mohammed, our tour guide from Thomas Cook Signature, was fantastic and very knowledgeable. He often made subtle changes to the itinerary to make our trips absolutely perfect!
Unfortunately we were unable to visit Cairo city itself due to the elections and the following demonstrations caused by the confusion over which candidate was successful so we had to give some of the things we’d planned to do a miss however, we still had an amazing time and got to see loads of pyramids.
As with most of Egypt you are approached by sellers when visiting the ancient monuments and this can become a little tiresome but you must remember that they are just trying to earn a living and a firm No will usually do the trick.
Cairo and Giza are lovely places rich with ancient history and culture but tourism has declined due to the revolution however, you can still visit Cairo without getting caught up in the demonstrations and I would urge anyone thinking of visiting to put the past unrest to one side as there are so many other things to see and do!
Overall I would definitely recommend Cairo / Giza as a place to visit and Le Meridian Pyramids is definitely the place to stay if you are staying in this area.

A standard large hotel, clean rooms and friendly staff. Our room had a fantastic view over the pool area and the Giza Pyramids. Swim up bar and a restaurant in the middle of the pool made this a fabulous place to spend an afternoon after a day out sight seeing. This is not an area for walking around (apart from the falafel bar up the street a bit - awesome!), so once back at the hotel, that's where you'll stay. We were happy to be away from centre of Cairo. Handy to reach the Pyramids (use transport) and the Dashur and Saqqara regions.
