I was truly in awe of the pyramids when seeing them up close. It really is a magical place. Unfortunately it is full of these idiots trying to get you to ride their camel or horse. It is a continuous harassment and barrage. A friend of mine decided to try it, and they wouldn't let her get off the camel unless she paid $100 USD. Another one of these horrible, sadly frequent experiences offered by Egypt. Unfortunately nothing is being done by the authorities, and everything is run amuck.
The only advantage right now of visiting Giza is there is a lack of tourists in the area.
So here's a tip: Put on your earphones, and deliberately avoid the hustlers. In fact, make it a point to not acknowledge their existence. They're simply there to try to make easy money and it should not be encourage. The truth is, it ruins the opportunity to reflect and enjoy the moment of being in the proximity of such an amazing piece of human achievement and architecture.
