“Nice hotel, out of the way though”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 15, 2009

We stayed here as part of our Egypt tour. We were happy in the fact that we were 'upgraded' and I had remembered seeing not so great reviews about the hotel in the itinerary. The hotel was suitable - considered a 5 star but there was nothing special about it. It was too cold to swim but the pool area was nicely done with eateries and bars all the way around. There was also tennis court, spa etc but we had no time for all of this.

It was the only place that we managed to get a double bed in a room, and there was 2 of them, everywhere else in Egypt was twin singles.

The problem is the location if you want to leave and wander about. You have to catch a cab anywhere you want to go, although the hotel had a decent menu on offer, and for a 5 star restaurant was not expensive for food (drinks are always expensive in hotels in Egypt).

The location is quite good for the pyramids, about a 10 minute drive along 1 straight road.

Overall 4 stars - loses a point for the lack of things near the hotel.

We stayed at the Oasis hotel for three nights at the end of November 2008. The hotel was equivalent to a three star hotel in Australia. The rooms were clean, however our room had a lingering smell of cigarettes. The gardens were nice, however not outstanding. The restaurant was better than some of the other hotels we stayed at in Egypt. We paid about 65 pounds to get into Cairo, one-way, in a taxi. The hotel can arrange 'limos' for you, or you can get a taxi yourself on the road.
The service was of a mixed standard. When I first arrived the staff at the front counter ignored me for about five minutes, then said I would have to wait two hours to check in, then whe I approached them five minutes later to ask where the bathroom was they asked me if they could check me in now. That said, when we asked them where a particular restaurant was they wrote the name and address out in Arabic for us and told us how much a taxi should be to get there.
The main reason we chose this hotel is that it is close to the Pyramids, however when we went into Cairo to book a tour a few of the agents said we would have to make our own way into Cairo to start the tour anyway. I would recommend staying at one of the hotels that has a view of the Pyramids if you have your heart set on staying out near them, otherwise stay in a hotel that is closer to the attractions of Cairo. This is the only reason I wouldn't recommend this accommodation to a friend. Other than location, it was adequate.

Just got back from a 4 night stay at this hotel and felt compelled to write a review since I enjoyed it so much.
I found this hotel to be one of the cheaper hotels available in Cairo and, thanks to the other reviews on this site, decided that it looked a good option. It certainly was.

The rooms were clean and tidy with everything you generally need. Certainly not luxurious but the bathroom was fine, the beds were comfortable, the TV was fine with a few English channels and radio stations.

The hotel buffet was good with a variety of food types. I was concerned about the food hygiene before going to Egypt as I'd heard some horror stories, but everything was fine. I ate lots of different food types and had no ill effects!

The only complaint I can think of is that drinks are a little expensive (basically English prices) and tips are usually expected by the staff. However this is pretty par-for-the-course across all of Egypt, not particular to this hotel.

The surroundings are very nice compared to the other hotels in Cairo. It is quite peaceful with lush green surroundings, fountains and water features.

Don't use the hotel taxis as they are expensive. If you go to the main gate, the security guards will find a taxi for you. There was a very nice taxi driver called Sabr who wanted just 150 LE (about 18 UK pounds) to take us on a 6-7 hour trip around Cairo stopping where ever we wanted. He was always on time, spoke enough English to point out all the sites and ask if we wanted to stop. This was the perfect way to see Cairo.

If I return to Cairo (which I probably will as the trip was fantastic) I'd definitely go to this hotel again.

  • Liked — Location and peacefulness
  • Disliked — Expensive drinks and constant need for tipping

The Oasis is a very nice hotel/resort, and we found a great rate of room with a balcony for $82 with taxes and breakfast included. The staff are very friendly, and the laundry service was top notch. Avoid the buffet at 124LE a person as you can get just as good of food, atmosphere and service pool side; my girlfriend and I both had an awesome sea bass plate for $8 a person. I highly recommend the strawberry juice as well.

This hotel is not close enough to explore by foot so you will have to cab it. I would avoid using the hotel's taxi service to get around anywhere; I found them to be rude and overpriced. Internet service is overpriced as well at 35LE an hour as well. I found everything to western prices except our dinner.

This hotel is full of tourist groups; so if you are looking to avoid them, this is not the place to stay. Overall a very nice place to stay.

I stayed here with my mother and two small children, it was great. Everyone was friendly and helpful. We stayed halfboard, which worked really well, because we didnt need to worry about finding food near by. The food was really good and had enough variety to keep us all happy. The hotel was really clean and the rooms where modern and very spacious. We felt it was far better than the 5 star we stayed in later on in our trip.

  • Liked — cleanliness and the food
  • Disliked — Better play ground but its egypt and health and safety isnt a issue!

What a lovely hotel, we arrived late around 11.45pm and there was plenty of staff on hand to help.

We checked in and was asked if we would like Chef to cook us something to eat as we was half board and he didn't want us to miss out on a meal, which surprised us.

Our room was a comfortable size, nice king size bed with plenty of room for our daughters bed at the side of us. Nice sized fridge, which was empty when we arrived, carpet nice, soft and clean. Telly was good a few channels you could watch.

The bathroom was clean with nice sized towels, the shower worked well and was lovely and hot. Towels changed daily.

Note: there was no bottled water in the room for you to brush your teeth with.

The Pool was cold but in the heat just to dip in and out of the pool was refreshing, my daughter loved the pool. Sunbeds was comfy, towels provided you just gave you room number and signed for them.

There is pool service for drinks and food, and a lovely seating area for you sit in and enjoy the daytime or evening.

The gardens are lovely, small and well kept.

Restaurant was lovely, clean, plenty of choice, breakfast you could have cereal, jams, breads, fruit, salad, hot select of food, eggs, juices, youghart, tea, coffee, juice.

Dinner was a select of salad, soup ( which was awesome) rolls, breads, chicken in a light sauce, or without sauce if you ask, fish, beef, rice, pasta, vegetables, peas, brocoilli, califlower, just as they come with no sauce, potatoes and a huge range of afters, jelly, custard sweets, the same sort of deserts we get over here.

Nothing is to much trouble, they will sort out plain food for fussy eaters and help as much as they can.

There is a lovely area in the hotel to sit in comfy chairs and listen to the gentlemen singing, you can have drinks there and more after which are on offer, this need to be paid for.

We didn't find the hotel noisy rather quiet and peaceful.

The reason we choose his hotel was because, we wanted to stay out of Cairo, though i love Cairo it was nice to stay somewhere quiet. The hotel is down the road from the Pyramids, so easy to get to them.

We would book this hotel again

The Oasis Hotel is located in Giza and is very close to the Pyramids. It definitely lives up to its name and you can really lap it up when not visiting the sites. We did not venture out very much outside of our organised tours and were perfectly content to lounge by the lovely pool, enjoy the lush surroundings and eat at one of several restaurants run by the hotel. The rooms are very nice and kept clean and neat. The hotel does offer Wi-Fi although it is an extra cost. The hotel is quite large and offers services such as a large pool, tennis court, ATM, massage and other beauty services as well as a number of restaurants. Breakfast was included in the room price and when we had an early start, the hotel was good enough to prepare a breakfast box for us to take with us. While the hotel is a long way from the airport, its proximity to the pyramids and other sights in Cairo make it a good option in this very large city.
