BIG BUMMER!! My husband and I showed up for our 1 night stay at the Mena House on Saturday April 19th only to be greeted by security who would not let us through the gates because all workers are currently on strike. We were lucky enough to find a room at the nearby Moevenpick, however please DO NOT BOOK THE MENA HOUSE HOTEL at the moment until this strike is sorted. We had no idea and luckily we had a driver who spoke Arabic, found out what was going on and quickly found us an alternative. I'm sure The Mena House is an otherwise lovely place to stay but for NOW, look elsewhere. On another note, the pyramids and Cairo are worth the visit so don't let this hotel strike defer your visit; there are other choices nearby if staying near the pyramids is important to you. My advice is to visit Cairo NOW! Few tourists, amazing history, wonderful people and delicious food.

Stayed at the Mena house during visit to Egypt in March. Fantastic location, helpful staff, excellent food and location. Any closer, you have to be inside the great Pyramids. Best viewing of the pyramids from the Montgomery suites.

Friendly and very accommodating staff, were very attentive and ensured I had everything I needed whilst my husband was conducting business during the day, especially if I wanted to eat in our suite! Good food, I even enjoyed the fab Indian restaurant and I normally hate uk Indian food!!
Second visit this time and as usually could not have had better service or nicer grounds! Will look forward to going to another oberi hotel later this year!! We will be back!

Oh not to forget how safe the complex is!

Room Tip: Get a room in the main hunting lodge if you want extra luxary, just beautiful!

My wife and I had planned a combined 25th wedding anniversary / birthday tour of the Middle East and we had confirmed reservations at Mena House for an April 19 arrival. Said arrival included special arrangements as a surprise for my wife. On April 17th - one day prior to our departure - I was informed by our travel agent that Mena House had cancelled our reservation due to an alleged employee strike. Mena House never informed us and subsequent e-mails sent to them asking for an explanation were ignored. This shows total non-professionalism and a lack of courtesy toward guests.
I would advise anyone thinking of staying there to consider another place since confirmed reservations apparently mean nothing.

I was due to stay at Mena (in Pyramid view room) from 4/19 through 4/22 but unfortunately, they canceled my booking due to some sort of labor strike that is taking place there now.

That it happened at the last minute is a challenge so I'm trying to manage - any recommendations from other travelers for a good alternative in the Giza Plateau?

I guess it's not their fault and I'm not opposed to organized labor trying to get a fair shake - it's just disappointing nonetheless.

We started our Egyptian vacation in Cairo at Mena House Hotel Giza, where old world charm meets 21st century luxury. This has to be one of the best hotels in Egypt, the view of the Pyramids from the hotel was breath taking as was the hotel and grounds.
After visiting the famous Egyptian Museum and tour of Cairo we flew to Luxor to start our 7 night Nile cruise to Aswan, this was our first time on a river cruise and we were not disappointed, the boat was well appointed the crew were excellent as was the food.
We were escorted on our cruise by an expert Egyptologist called George who went beyond the call of duty to make sure that we got the best out of our visits to the many ancient sites and monuments.
The valley of the kings was the standout visit for us, it has a truly amazing atmosphere about it, this included a tour of Howard Carter's house, WOW.
Our last four days in Egypt were spent at the Fort Arabesque resort on the Red sea, another excellent hotel with lovely food.
During our time in Egypt it was obvious that the British were not travelling there this year ! due to the adverse publicity from the Media whilst German/Italian and Russian tourists were like us enjoying what Egypt has to offer.
My advice is visit now !! Egypt is open for business and is safe and welcoming.
Our tour was organised for us by Orbital Travel, checkout their web page, I recommend them for a Cruise / stay vacation in Egypt.

We stayed at Mena House for a week while on a visit to Egypt in January. The hotel is beautiful! Old-school elegance with a regal atmosphere and an incredible location with jaw-dropping views of the pyramids. You can spot the Egyptian peaks from most anywhere in the hotel, and they make for an incredible view to wake up to in the morning and peek at through your balcony. The hotel has a good selection of restaurants and the meals we had there were excellent, with equally fantastic service. The reception staff at the hotel is superb and they go out of their way to help and make your stay at Mena House a pleasant one. Overall fantastic hotel experience and highly recommended!
