Had a most magical experience in Egypt - my friend and I stayed with Gouda Fayed at his family home the Sphinx Guest House - or as it is known in the neighborhood - Gouda's House.

We were pleasantly surprised to find our room had it's own bath and the view of the Sphinx and pyramids was outstanding! We felt right at home as we stepped into the large social room on the 4th floor where we were able to visit with other guests and share in the simple foods offered by Mr. Fayed and his lovely wife. The rooftop patio was a great location to view the light show and watch the buzz of the street.

Though we could only stay one night - we know there is no other place that would have afforded us the magical experience - Thank you Gouda - it was great!

Room tip: Be sure to ask for a room with a view!

You cant get any closer to the pyramids than this. The room & facilities are alright if you focus more on the windows :) & dont judge by western standards. The views are fabulous. All that Giza has to offer(including camels & horses.. :) ) is on your doorstep. Watch the sound & light show from terrace.

There is Pizza hut next door.

The owner Mr Gouda is a nice & humble person. You will feel like home.

The owner of the Sphinx guest house, Mr. Gouda, transformed the last floors of his home, literally in front of the Shpinx and the Giza pyramids, into a small hotel a few years back. The feeling is exactly that of being in an Egyptian home. The rooms are basic, and the cleanliness is not supreme by western standars, but the view is one of the most amazing anyone can hope for. Sitting on the terrace, with the Sphinx looking at you from a couple of hundered meters away, you will have an unforgettable, one in a life time experience. We spent one whole day looking at the Giza plateau, gazing at the light changing on the pyramids, admiring them in peace, far from the noisy crowds downstairs, and away from the hassle. Also, being just in front of a large desert stretch, this guest house is a place where breathing is easier, as it is not as polluted as other places in Cairo. The hospitality is great, breakfast included is typically Egyptian. Central Cairo is about 1/2 hour away by taxi, but, having stayed in Cairo before, to us this was a plus. Highly recommended for independent travelers.
